I have similarly checked a site here in MA which most of the local indian community visits. The prices are little high and I'm negotiating. If sulekha is visited a lot please enquire about the prices and then you can forward to the media committee.
I'm planning to contribute to the ad myself if the local website agrees to my terms. (Still bargaining !)
Sukekha.com is the most visited website for INDIANS in NORTHEAST....for all classifields. Would it be very expensive to put up some banners in LEADING indian websites where lot of INDIAN IT people visit.

I agree with both the ideas.
In fact the idea of the banner with 'Waiting for X years' is fantastic ..
That would be an amazing sight where everyone holds placards that say since when they have been waiting.
If it's even 400 people .. we have 400 people saying look we've been waiting since 5,7 or 9 years.
It's also important to get in heavyweights like either local folks like Google HR head or any public face. Google has always supported the Immigration issues .. since they have problems because they couldn't hire folks when the h1 lottery happenned.

My I485 is still pending (> 180 days filed on July27th '07). I have my renewed EAD valid for the next 2 years. I have been out of project for 4 months and my employer , who filed my GC, terminated my health coverage too. Iam using my COBRA option.
Recently, i have applied for a perm position using EAD . I explained to the client about by current status of GC. They wanted to know what they are supposed to do for it. I told them i need to 'invoke' a law called AC21.(pardon my ignorance if iam wrong) inorder to transfer my pending application.
Now the big question is, how do i initiate this whole process?
I really apreaciate all your suggestions.
Invoking AC21 is easy, but you need to know what you can expect and how to resolve it
(1) If you decided to change to new employer using EAD - there is nothing you need to do. Just join and work.
(2) As employer is asking what they need to do - tell them they need to provide an AC21 letter of support - you can find various formats on the web.
(3) Your new job must be in same or similar category.
(4) Call customer service to verify your address on file - also hire a personal attorney and make sure they file g 28 and have them on file too for USCIS communication
(5) Your AC21 letter may/may not reach your file depending on the service center, officer and a lot of other factors.
(6) Usually most AC21 cases go through just fine unless your ex employer requests a revoke on i 140 - in such a situation you may get an RFE, NOID or a straight denial on 485 - nothing to worry about - you can resolve all these and you will find yourself back on track.

Yes the service center will send your employer a curtesy copy and attorney the origial approval. Once you get the Feel bill letter and send the cachiers check, they will create a case and send the packet 3. in which you can find the NVC case number.

Yes but in Canada you will breathe clean air and drink clean water. You will have electricity 24 hrs a day and water 24 hrs a day. You wont find trash on the street and you wont be considered second class citizen if you arent SC/ST/OBC due to reservations. You woint have to give "donations" to get your kid admitted to Class 1. You wont face a system where a simple court case drags to 50 yrs or a case where doctor will not treat if before police does a "Panchnama" if you had an accident. I've had both kinds of accounts for years
NRE - you can only deposit funds from abroad, but cannot deposit funds into it from India. Havent repatriated back - so not so sure abt those rules
NRO - you can deposit funds from abroad & any money you receive in India - eg. if u get rent, or your PPF money etc. Bank will also deduct TDS on the interest you earn in this account. Not so with NRE. Legally, when you leave India, if you do not close your accounts, you shd change the status of ur existing a/c to NRO.
As far as the issue being faced by OP - dont know how much money we're talking abt here, but if your folks send u thru legal channels, they will have to explain why the money is being sent.
If you have an NRE or NRO account, the money cannot be deposited into those accounts from India. This is my personal experience.

Efiled @ NSC on may 19th.
FP on july 3rd, still no approval.
My current EAD expires Aug 30th.
1) Requested expedited processing via phone.
Received email saying to wait for next 30 days.
2) Called NSC, agent gave a fax number and asked me to provide Emp letter.
Faxed the Emp letter and also a covering letter.
3) 2 weeks passed, still no reply, called up NSC again, explained situation that I wld lose my job if i dont get EAD extension by this month end. She opened a Expedited request and told me to wait for 10 days.
4) As a back up, I also took infopass appoint for next monday (90 days will be over by then)
Believe me, its not easy going thru these phases.
I do not know how to reach my congressman/senator, Anyone here, pls let me know. I am from fremont, CA.

I support this idea most.
I agreee with the spirit of things - that multiple ways of expressing anguish, disgust, frustration is required.
While we have to keep generating funds and doing the lobbying, the frustration of the members must be "used".
Here is my suggestion (and this was mentioned by someone earlier also) - let's send the criss-crossed and blackened photocopies of our degrees, patents, publications etc. to the congress and other authorities as a symbol of how useless these are becoming as we wait for GCs. We can coordinate the event such that everyone's reaches at around the same time.
Again, all I am saying is that we can do multiple things to gain attention and make our point, and these can happen simultaneously with the other activities ongoing at the State chapter level.
