Sony Computer Entertainment- head Shuhei Yoshida says that the game industry should be supported by independent developers of digital games.
"Without it, the entire industry to stagnate in terms of innovation," he said.
Yoshida, who runs Sony's worldwide development studios house, also said that the next PlayStation Vita was designed for developers. The new PlayStation platform suite - announced earlier this year - will also allow developers to port PlayStation content to
Google's Android OS.
Both initiatives seem to indicate that Sony is
"putting their money where their mouth is" when it comes to supporting independent developers, especially if one considers the number of small studies has been the support of indie titles in digital and
PS Minis on the
PlayStation Network.
"Having the ability to sell their games on the network is key to give smaller teams a chance to contribute ideas," Yoshida said, " and sometimes invest their own money to get something special and that their projects meet with millions of users. "
