****Search of suspect's underpants OK'd!
(Court OKs police search of suspect's underpants.)
SANTA FE (AP) - The state Supreme Court has ruled that police can search under a person's clothing during an arrest if officers have a reasonable suspicion the individual is hiding a gun or contraband.
The court said Albuquerque police were justified in searching a man's underpants during a roadside stop. A policeman pulled back the waistband of Terry Williams' underpants and found a bag of with cocaine and heroin.
Williams was stopped for a traffic violation in 2006, and there was an outstanding felony arrest warrant for him.
Police suspected Williams of trying to hide something or get a gun because of his movements in the car. When Williams got out of the car, his pants were unzipped and belt was unbuckled.
The Supreme Court issued its ruling earlier this month.
