The entire world knew of the horrors that occurred on the night of July 30th, 2008 outside of Portage La Prairie, MB on a Grey Hound bus by the next morning. I wasn't working the night in which the incident occurred, but worked on many of the subsequent stories after that brutal night including several stories involving the family's reaction, and a vigil for Tim McLean.
The story in and of itself was utterly terrible, but no one could have predicted how much worse it escalated with PETA and the Westboro Baptist Church disrespecting McLean's family.
These stories were by far the toughest assignment(s) of my career as a photojournalist to work on due to the obvious emotional intensity.
