****Semi carrying 45,000 pounds of frozen pork splits, shuts down I-80!
A semi-truck carrying 45,000 pounds of frozen pork split in half Saturday while traveling eastbound on Interstate 80 near Joliet, closing the road for nearly two hours.
The accident occurred at 7:42 p.m. when the semi struck a hole in the pavement near the Houbolt Road exit, causing the pork to shift in the trailer and splitting the truck’s trailer, Illinois State Police Joliet District Trooper Sam Heenam said.
The truck did not strike anything, but its back half ended up blocking the road. Although the pork inside did not spill onto the lanes of traffic, the closure was needed so the meat could be loaded onto another truck, Heenam said. Both lanes of eastbound traffic were closed until 9:30 p.m., he said.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
