Please take a look. My 1st chapbook is out. I've waited a long time for this, and I am really excited. Thanks to Dancing Girl Press and Kristy Bowen. Also to John Balbarin for the awesome cover! And, as always, to Daniel DiStefano and Alec Marsh for the reading they did and the advice they gave.

"From one poet to another ---- Happy birthday, I love you!

My best friend Brittany was born today
Many years ago, she’s getting old, I must say!

Her lifelong dreams are coming true.
She wants to be known as “Beef” by me and you.

She’s going back to Queens, leaving Greenpoint behind
But dirty hipsters will always stay fresh in her mind.

She loves Perez Hilton, a good whiskey & Wegs-
And the pitter patter of old Timmy running past her legs.

I love her so dearly, she’s the best gal around!
Since our days in the Shit Hole, when our friendship was found.

Happy birthday, dear Beefy, have a lovely day!
You’re my favorite and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!!!!!"

I haven't been writing because I've been busy. Busy, busy. Every day I wake up and dream about the rest of my life. I pick paint samples and sinks from Home Depot. Because soon I will move and have a "nest" to fix up for my very own. And when I do, I will be listening to this:

brittish 3/19/10: the ROMANCE edition

When you're in a great mood, be HAPPY. Listen to songs that sound utterly ridiculous and delusional due to their naivete, innocence, and optimism, and sing them at TOP VOLUME. On life's roller coaster, take advantage of the upswings and don't be ashamed to have hope and believe in something outside yourself. Just know that eventually that fucking coaster's gonna drop you, and your stomach will fly out of your chest at breakneck pace and probably shatter your heart on the way out. Until then, love and listen to cheese ball tunes. And smile because you're lucky to be alive.

brittish 1/25/10 classic flashback craze

At work today I found myself thrilled with the radio tunes that floated from the speakers. First "Baby I'm Yours," the classic Barbara Lewis song that Arctic Monkeys covered in 2006.

Next, "Close to You" by the Carpenters. Imagine the person you die over walking into a room with animated bluebirds flying over his shoulders. Makes you GRIN every time; works like a charm!

How about a little country? "Stand By Your Man" by Tammy Wynette for when you want to wallow in pre-feminist blues that surface in every girl from time to time.

"Baby Love" by The Supremes makes me jump around like a conejita, flippin' my bleached blonde pony tail for joy.

Want to slit your wrists? Then how about "The Endof the World" by Skeeter Davis. I dig her hair so much and wish I could sing with such pathetic/awesomeness.

And best for last, "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes. Let the lyrics speak for themselves.

"The night we met I knew I needed you so/and if I had the chance I'd never let you go/So won't you say you love me?/I'll make you so proud of me/We'll make 'em turn their heads every place we go/So won't you please (be me, be my) Be my little baby/Say you'll be my darlin'/Be my baby now/Ooh whoa whoa oh-ohh/I'll make you happy, just wait and see/for every kiss you give me I'll give you three/Oh since the day I saw you I have been waiting for you/You know I will adore you till eternity."

brittish 7/3/09

Happy almost 4th of July, aka my favorite holiday. Why is this my fave day of the year? I'm not the biggest patriot ever, I hate mosquitoes, and I don't eat burgers or hot dogs! But I love the summer, and I love fireworks. So even though for the past few years the rain has obscured the light show, and the years before that some asshole boy(s) always fucked over my plans (fucking potheads!!), and I have NOTHING going on tomorrow night, I still love the 4th. So here's a toast to the land of the free and the home of the brave!

My favorite national monument, for obvious reasons.

Weekly tunes:

1. Little Girl- Julian Casablancas w/ Dangermouse (official song of the summer)
2. Pretty Little Mess- Young Lords
3. Shelter- The Dead Trees
4. 12:51: The Strokes

brittish 6/26/09

Last night I stayed up way late watching Milos Foreman's awesome Czech New Wave film Loves of a Blonde, 1965. In contrast to the ultra-serious, nihilistic French New Wave (Godard flavor) Loves of a Blonde has a sense of humor that permeates the sad plot: the romantic follies and triumphs of Andula, the young factory worker looking for love as a means to escape her boring life.

I wish I looked exactly like Andula, played by Hana Brejchova. But instead of bleaching my hair again, I turn on the iPod and DANCE.

This week's tunes:
Teen Lovers: The Virgins
I Want You: Bob Dylan
Louisa: The Virgins
Work It Out: The Virgins
Easy Beat: Dr. Dog
Better Trends: Japanese Motors
California Dreamin': The Mamas and the Papas
Happiness is a Warm Gun: The Beatles
Love Will Tear Us Apart: Joy Division
Television (Daytrotter Session): The Dead Trees
No Hope Kids: Wavves
Day I Die: Drug Rug
Summer in the City: Regina Spektor
La La La Lies: The Who (BBC Sessions)
Love Buzz: Nirvana
Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World: The Ramones
If You're Going to San Francisco: Scott McKenzie

brittish 6/19/09

Week #3. So much for summer happening. At this date, these tunes should make you want to go swimming in the freezing cold Atlantic, but I'm afraid they're a little less joyous than that. June's been a bust, but there's another week and a 1/2 so maybe something will change. Until then... try to listen to as much Japanese Motors as you can to get that California fresh feeling, and throw in a little bit of Adam Green's Kokomo (double Kokomo if you can stand it) to get your summer started.

Self-Taught Learner: Lissy Trullie
My Mistakes Were Made For You: The Last Shadow Puppets
Unattainable: Little Joy
Devil Inside: INXS
Meeting Place: The Last Shadow Puppets
Don't Watch Me Dancing: Little Joy

BRITTISH: new weekly installment

"brittish" is my go-to playlist on my beloved antiquarian iPod (Photo model circa 2005! Bigger than Zach Morris's portable phone and tough enough to knock out a rapist.) "brittish" is like "on-the-go" but better because it's lovingly curated every week to perfectly enhance the Manhattan walking/subway-riding experience. Each of the about 25 songs makes every scene a real-life film and can change the visual perspective from Godard (fave!) to Hopper (existential!) to Bogdonovich (American!). So from now on, every Friday I'll post my current "brittish" list. Hopefully you'll d/load some new songs and hopefully you'll send me some suggestions because I'm always on the look-out.
