NEW STROKES, posted by Jules on his Twitter

He's such a darling. The Strokes' site was mobbed due to a free d/load of their new single "Under Cover of the Darkness" so JFats put it on youtube, via his Twitter.
I think it's damn good. I think life makes sense again! Nick's slayin, Fab's jammin, Albert is wind-millin', Niko is keeping everything in check, and Jules is just Julesing. LOVE IT!

ALERT ALERT i might cut my hair!
While Strokesing on Brooklyn Vegan's Austin City Limits pics, I saw a face that registered as one of my favorites, but I couldn't quite make out WHO I was looking at... something was off!
Of course The Strokes photos make me happy/wonder when the F they are going to give us a hometown show, but do you think JFats and Owens shared style secrets backstage? Talk about fashion icons! xoxox

julian casablancas at terminal 5, night 2
He's the best, and he always will be. My pictures suck because I shake when he sings. Nivardo came with me tonight so it was super fun. The energy wasn't quite as intense as at last night's show, but the crowd loved it, and I haven't seen so many beautiful boys in a long time. To the boy who stood beside me smoking mad cigarettes (we spoke about Telepathe sucking) I haven't seen someone I didn't know who made me want to rip their clothes off that much in a long time. So thanks for making me remember that you people still exist. AND THANKS JULIAN for what you give to the world. We love you!!
julian casablancas at terminal 5, night 1
Last night was totally worth the 3 year wait. It was like seeing someone you used to see all the time 3 years in the future and really being happy for them because they've grown and matured in the best way: they now feel comfortable with themselves. Julian played his heart out to his home city and everyone there was all love and hearts and "kisses" and wanted him to succeed. His show kicked ass; he looked beautiful; he made me happy to be alive in this world because such amazing things exist and humans are capable of so many great things.
"4 Chords of the Apocalypse" brought me close to tears. His voice is the immaculate distillation of all the intensity, passion, anger, and beauty that I feel like exists within myself and cannot sing... His voice is the closest aural approximation of the poetry I wish I had the ability to write. He is Roberto Bolano, Kurt Cobain, JD Salinger, van Gogh, Warhol, O'Hara, Plath, all the best parts of a Billy Corgan guitar solo, my first boyfriend's sad brown eyes, the first sip of a strong latte, kitten Timmy, good sex, sloppy drunk sex, Federer winning the French Open, the Olden Times, the day I got my braces off, Matt Dillon K-Holes, GVS films, cute skinny homeless-looking boys on the train, bacon, wine, vodka, bourbon, Blueberry Pancakes, Donald's teeth, McGinley photos, War and Peace, the night I met Scott Tankel... Julian is all the best things in life.
And tonight I get to do it all over again!

Phrazes for the Young: Julian Casablancas
Julian kicks ass. He doesn't need anyone else to make amazing, inspirational, fun, and dirty music. I will be sad if The Strokes don't get it together and make any new music, but I will also be happy as long as Julian creates new songs.
"4 Chords of the Apocalypse" is my favorite track. It's (of course) about the disintegration of a relationship, a personal apocalypse, if you will, and Jules keeps the piano ballad simple and bittersweet. His voice really made me understand years ago how vocals are an instrument like the piano or guitar or drums, and throughout this song and entire album, he teaches that lesson again. His voice is my favorite guitar ever. haha.
I also think he's a true auteur. From the 1st notes of Is This It? to the last of Phrazes for the Young, Jules has accomplished his singular musical vision. He wants to make retro music from the future. And he does that with every breath he takes. Every note he sings. Every piece of clothes he wears on his perfectly flawed body. He lives and breathes his artistic mission, much like Jean-Luc Godard or Dennis Hopper or Andy Warhol. And that's why he's the ultimate of COOL.
I can't be more coherent about it than that. I love this guy forever and ever, as everyone knows.

STREAM PHRAZES FOR THE YOUNG
Go HERE!
GET READY TO FALL IN LOVE ALL OVER AGAIN!
Btw, his performance on Conan kicked ass, and I'll post the video as soon as it's up somewhere.
I felt like I was 16 again. Dressed in a leather jacket, black pants, awesome belt, and with new streaks of blonde in his classically disheveled hair, Julian looked younger than I last remembered him. He sang with confidence and broke out some sweet dance moves. Welcome back, Julian!

Julian in SPIN

*UPDATE
This does not make things look good for the Strokes, and I'm starting to accept the fact that they may never record another album together. All I can say is I'm glad I was obsessed while they played shows and I'm glad I went to the ends of the earth (or at least the ends I could afford) to be a part of this band's energy. Read the full Spin article here.
NME doesn't really make me feel any more confident. Makes me think of "Someday" with some sadness... "Oh, when we was young, oh man did we have fun."
They write:
The Strokes suffering new album 'disagreement'
Julian Casablancas says there's a split in the band's camp
Julian Casablancas has revealed that there is a "disagreement" in the band over whether the new songs destined for their forthcoming fourth album are complete.
The frontman told The Sun that the New York band were split in terms of believing whether they were in a position to go ahead and complete the follow-up to 2006's 'First Impressions Of Earth'.
"There is a disagreement as to whether the snogs are ready," he explained. "Some of the band think they are and others don't. I'm somewhere in the middle."
Casablancas suggested that part of the problem stemmed from the fact that the band don't live near each other anymore.
"The problem is getting us together," he said. "We're scattered everywhere, and apart from when we're rehearsing we don't see each other. We're not like people who go to the movies together.
"It's weird with the band, a band is actually a great way to ruin a friendship."
Julian Casablancas releases his first solo album, 'Phrazes For The Young', on November 2.

close enough to be your ghost
I've been working non-stop this week, and my brittish list has fallen by the wayside because my iPod is dead.
I also bought Humbug, the 3rd album by Arctic Monkeys. It's dreamier than their previous efforts (Alex Turner takes a cue from Lou Reed's breathless voice in "Sunday Morning"), but retains the strong, stabilizing drums of Matt Helders and the dark, ominous moods that seemto inspire Turner to write. I love these lads, and my favorite new song so far is "Cornerstone.
But in music news important to me, Julian Casablancas was on the August 12 cover of NME. They airbrushed the hell out of his face, but who cares? The man is back.
Of course I prefer him au naturale, like in this photo posted on Oh Someday (Strokes Live Journal forum). His sense of style mixes geek chic with classic rock idol.
I thought I saw you in The Battleship but it was only a lookalike
She was nothing but a vision trick under the warming light
She was close, close enough to be your ghost
But chances turned to toast when I asked her if I could call her your name.
I thought I saw you in The Rusty Hook, huddled up in a wicker chair
I wandered over for a closer look and kissed whoever was sitting there
She was close and she held me very tightly until I asked politely
"Please can I call you her name?"
I elongated my lift home
I let him go the long way round
I smelt your scent on the seat belt and kept my short cuts to myself
I thought I saw you in The Parrot's Beak messing with the smoke alarm
It was too loud for me to hear her speak and she had a broken arm
It was close, so close that the walls were wet
And she wrote it out in Letraset
"No, you can't call me her name."
Tell me where's your hiding place
I'm worried I'll forget your face
I've asked everyone
I'm beginning to think I imagined you all along
I saw your sister in The Cornerstone on the phone to the middle man
When I saw that she was on her own I thought she might understand
She was close, well you couldn't get much closer
She said "I'm really not supposed to but yes, you can call me anything you want."
