Somewhere off Jazz Street ist ein Dark Jazz Projekt aus den USA. Das gewohnte Repertoire der bekannteren Jazz Noir Künstler wird dabei aber mehrheitlich ausser Acht gelassen. Somewhere off Jazz Street verbindet elektronische Elemente, die sich mehr vom Ambient (hat allerdings auch öfters post-rock Einflüss!) entfernen als zum Beispiel Bohren & der Club of Gore und klassische Jazz Elemente, weiss aber durchaus die düstere Atmosphäre herzustellen, wie es ein Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble vermag.Saxophon und komplexe Elektrodrum-Beats treffen auf tiefe Bassläufe und psychedelische Elektronika Elemente sowie furchterregende Piano Passagen. Das ganze klingt hier und da auch mal ein bisschen Free Jazz mässig, läuft aber keinesfalls aus dem Ruder, sondern geht einfach mal einen Schritt weiter als es Darkjazz bis hierhin getan hat. Interessante Kompositionen aus Amiland. Schön atmosphärisches Gesamtkonzept.

Somewhere off Jazz Street is a dark jazz project from the United States. The well-known repertoire of the popular jazz noir artists is disregarded hereby. Somewhere off Jazz Street combines electronic elements that somehow move away from the classic ambient doom jazz (but has a lot of post-rock influences) like on Bohren & der Club of Gore with classic jazz elements, though it is definetely able to create a bleak atmosphere, like the genre-mates Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, for example.
Saxophon and complex electrodrum-beats meet deep basslines and psychedelic electronica elements such as frightening piano passages. The whole thing sounds here and there like free jazz, but doesn't get out of control at all, but moves a step more forward than darkjazz did it until now. Interesting compositions from America. Beautiful, atmospheric ideas.
