After a brief history of the universe that is much easier to understand than anything by Stephen Hawking, we’re whisked off to the Amazon where a group of explorers have found a strange artifact: a mummified and unidentifiable hand. It appears to have belonged to an underwater creature and so a specialist and his girlfriend are called in.
We, of course, know that the hand belonged to an ancestor of the titular creature and he’s none too happy about his side of the swamp being invaded and desecrated. He’s so angry, in fact, that he’s not against killing a few interlopers if it means getting the boys off his block.
Apparently there are no creature video dating services in the lagoon, because the creature develops an affinity for the lovely Kay. And who can blame him? When she dips into the water in that mammoth one piece bathing suit…ring-a-ding-ding!
When the creature is drugged and captured, he’s well on his way to becoming the latest Chicken of the Sea fatality, but if there’s one thing horror movies have taught us, it’s this: the only thing worse than entering a monster’s domain is trying to take the monster out of it.
An all around classic, Universal Studios’ monster movie swan song is also one of its most enjoyable. It combines romance, horror and jungle adventure, good clean thrills and bathing beauties for the entire family. Highly recommended to those looking to get back to the grass roots, and those who can't wait for the impending (circa 2011) remake.
