MARIJUANA: WATCH OUT FOR THE BROWNIES!

Every time I read any story about people who consume (smokin' or eatin') marijuana (medical or otherwise) and get "SICK", I get a good laugh!

Within my 'realm of experience' (50 years) with marijuana I can't ever remember folks getting sick, unless they ate TOO MANY MUNCHIES!

All a bunch a crap from the 'anti pot' crowd'; you know, the ones that get drunk every weekend.

****Students Hospitalized After Eating Pot-Laced Brownies
(7 Students Reported To Taft Middle School Nurse While Hallucinating.)

SAN DIEGO -- Seven students at a Serra Mesa school were hospitalized Friday after falling ill from eating a brownie laced with medical marijuana, authorities said.

10News learned the students ingested the brownie on their bus ride to school.

Within an hour of the start of school, at least one teacher noticed some of the students in her class were acting strange and feeling sick.

"Nausea, light-headed; they seemed to be lethargic, kind of tired, not paying attention in class," said Sgt. Troy Holliday of the San Diego Unified School District Police Department.

Officials at Taft Middle School called 911 shortly after 9:30 a.m. after the students visited the school nurse and complained of feeling ill and experiencing hallucinations, authorities said.

The school initially reported that there were three students affected, but by time authorities arrived, there were at least seven. The four boys and three girls complained of symptoms such as nausea.

Some of the students were transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital and others to Rady Children's Hospital via ambulance. Their ailments were not considered serious.

"They were out of it, stoned out of it. They couldn't even talk to the cops. They were really out of it," said Annette Vanlandingham, who was waiting in the emergency room next to some of the students.

Investigators with the school district's police department questioned the students at the hospitals and were able to figure out which student was responsible for bringing the medical marijuana brownies.

"At this time, it appears he didn't need medical marijuana," said Sgt. Michael Jarvis of the SDUSD Police Department.

The youths admitted to authorities they had shared a pre-packaged medical marijuana brownie -- a type of item sold at marijuana dispensaries to people legally prescribed the herbal drug as a medicine. It was unclear how the students got a hold of the intoxicating confection.

All the students hospitalized were released late Friday afternoon.

There is no word on the possible punishment they face from school administrators.

10News learned at the beginning of the school year, students sign a zero-tolerance policy contract acknowledging if they're caught with drugs on campus, they can be suspended or expelled.

In this case, the student who brought the pot on the bus -- as well as the others who consumed it -- may even be arrested.
