****Obama 2012 campaign raffles off.....dinner with the President??
That's the latest idea from the Obama 2012 presidential campaign, as evidenced by the letter -- signed by "Barack" himself -- that hit the inboxes of President Barack Obama's supporters, past donors and campaign email subscribers today.
It promises that four lucky winners will get dinner and a flight to dine with him. "This won't be a formal dinner..but a casual meal among friends,'' the fundraising letter from the president promises.
The contest for dinner with the O has suprised some Democrats -- we got a few copies today in our inbox with comments like "Dinner??"
But it's also prompted some Republicans, like former Bush White House spokesman Ari Fleischer, to tweet their criticism.
Fleischer tweeted he's tossed in his $5 in hopes of being a winner, saying that with the raffle, "Obama is now Evita." (The Obama campaign may have a way out if he wins; the contest promises that four "supporters" will dine with POTUS.
Interesting factoid: the letter we received requested a $5 donation (we've never donated a dime to this campaign or any other campaign, Republican or Democratic, for that matter). But other Obama supporters report being asked for $15, $10 and even $75 to enter the contest. Here's the content of the appeal we got today as a subscriber to the Obama campaign mailing list:
