Weather Underground, ACORN and Obama: From Pitching Bombs to Pitching Policy

EX-WEATHER UNDERGROUND: What Are They Doing Today?
BILL AYERS, BERNADINE DORHN, ZACH POLLET, WADE RATHKE, DRUMMOND PIKE:
MAKING THE TRANSITION FROM VIOLENT OVERTHROW TO TAKEOVER from WITHIN

What do you do if you're a spoiled rich poser with time on your hands in the 1960s and 1970s?

For some, that question was answered by joining the Weather Underground--The Weathermen.

"...Weathermen advocated the overthrow of the government of the United States and the system of capitalism; toward that end, they carried out a campaign of bombings, jailbreaks, and riots."

Since armed overthrow of the US government and capitalism is so passe, so 1960s, the Weathermen moved on to other pursuits.

Perhaps, like the overthrow of the US government and capitalism by other means?

Keep in mind, ACORN is founded by these former Weather Underground. Even Progressives for Obama is Ayers and Dohrn founded. Project vote was founded by Zach Pollett. Tom Hayden ,Senator, founder of MoveOn.org, former husband of Jane Fonds, is former Weather Underground. Wade Rathke, founder of Acorn, is another one. So is Drummond Pike. Pike founded Tides.
--FBI Agent Talking About Bill Ayers. (video).

More to the point, how did the current president of the United States, Barack Obama, come to be surrounded and influenced by members of an organization that declared war on the United States of America in the 1960s?

WHERE ARE THEY TODAY?

Where are the former brothers-in-arms of the Weather Underground and what are they doing today? Let's take a look.

  1. Bill Ayers was the son of Commonwealth Edison Chairman and CEO Tom Ayers.

Much has been written (see links below) about the relationship between former Weather Underground leader, Bill Ayers, and President Barack Obama. Much of what the mainstream press wrote before the 2008 US election was apologia, often using the famous Obama quote that Ayers was "just some guy from my neighborhood".

    * Obama’s Ties to 1970’s Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers: Disassociation and Little Condemnation
    * Barack Obama, Bill Ayers: NY Times Continues to Whitewash Obama-Ayers Connection

The big question unasked by the media is if Barack Obama met Bill Ayers during the time both were in the Columbia University community at the same time that a splinter group of the Weathermen was still actively planting bombs. While the possibility has been suggested in blogs, there does not appear to be any record of any media directly asking Obama if he met Ayers in New York and if such a relationship spurred Obama to travel to Chicago to begin his career as a community organizer.
---Bob Owen, Ayers-Dohrn-Obama Tie Shouldn’t Be Dismissed; Oct. 6, 2008

  2. BERNADINE DORHN

    Bernadette Dorhn
[ABOVE: Bernadine Dorhn, former Weather Underground terrorist, Michelle Obama colleague and Obama babysitter.]

From Wikipedia: "Bernadine Ohrnstein in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1942 and grew up in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, an upper-middle-class suburb of Milwaukee.

1995: Barack Obama launches his political career in a "coming out" party held in the home of Bernadette Dorhn and husband, Bill Ayers.
March 2009: Law authorities in San Francisco hold a press conference indicating that Dorhn was responsible for planting a pipe bomb that killed a SF police officer in 1970.
March 2009: Obama's Justice Department, tells SFPD not to comment on the case.

    ALSO:

It was on Feb. 16, 1970, Sgt. Brian V. McDonnell of the San Francisco Police Department was killed by shrapnel from an anti-personnel bomb planted on a window ledge at the force's Park Station. The pipe bomb was filled with heavy metal staples and lead bullet projectiles. Another officer, Robert Fogarty, received serious wounds to his face and legs, and was partially blinded in the attack.

WND reported just months ago when top law enforcement officers in San Francisco signed a letter accusing Ayers and Dorhn of being directly behind the bombing, but the Obama Justice Department then told them not to comment on the case.

At that press conference March 12, directed by activist Cliff Kincaid of America's Survival Inc, the leaders of the San Francisco Police Officers' Association made public a letter pointing a finger at Ayers and Dohrn that demanded those responsible for the bombing be brought to justice.
--New report adds to evidence against Dohrn

It's not known how much influence the Obama's former babysitter has these days. Probably, as has been the case with other associations, no more than the president is publicly willing to admit.

  3. Zach Pollet

Former Weatherman, Zach Pollet, became ACORN's political director and the head of ACORN's Project Vote, now embroiled in voter fraud investigations in several states.

Zach Pollett, for instance, was Project Vote’s executive director and Acorn’s political director, until July, when he relinquished the former title. Mr. Pollett continues to work as a consultant for Project Vote through another Acorn affiliate.
--ACORN: Who Funds the Weather Underground’s Little Brother? by Matthew Vadum

Obama has admitted to working for Project Vote in 1992 when he ran a “successful voter registration drive”. He claims on his Fight The Smears website, “ACORN was not part of Project Vote”.

He was technically right: ACORN was not a part of Project Vote. Project Vote was a part of ACORN.

Is Project Vote another example of "taking over the US government by other means?"

  4. Wade Rathke

Former Weatherman Rathke is the founder of Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now (ACORN).

The group has had its federal funding cut within the last several days over charges of widespread corruption among many of its affiliate offices across the country. The organization was captured on video advising a pair of undercover journalists from Big Government.com on how to evade taxes and set up a brothel featuring underage child sex slaves.

Rathke and brother, Dale, have left ACORN after a nearly-$1 million embezzlement scandal. He then founded--surprise--ACORN International.

  5. Drummond Pike

Pike, the director of the Tides Foundation, a George Soros-sponsored distributor of financial support to ACORN and its affiliates, among others.

Son of a wealthy investment banker, Pike is another child of privilege who sought to bring down that system so that community-unapproved 'others' couldn't duplicate his family's feat of creating wealth.

For more, see Drummond Pike at Undue Influence.

Like most of the other Weathermen, Pike makes a killing in his pursuit of helping the poor--in Pike's case, somewhere between $400,000-500,000/year.

SO HOW DID THE PRESIDENT GET INVOLVED WITH SO MANY MEMBERS OF THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND?

Question

How did the president come to be surrounded by this web of 1960s radicals who advocated violent overthrow of the US government, the "re-education" of capitalists and the "elimination" of 25 million Americans when they took over? [Obama, Bill Ayers: Ayers Wanted to Kill 25 Million Die-Hard Capitalists]

One clue: he's worked with many of them in the past.

Just look for the union label
In the mid 1990s, ACORN and the SEIU partnered with other leftist groups to help form the Marxist New Party, a political coalition. In 1995, Obama sought out their nomination. He was successful in obtaining that endorsement and used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers.

ALSO: Barack Obama, Socialist: Obama a Member of Socialist New Party.

This particular part of Obama's past was studiously ignored by a media that traded its traditional vetting responsibilities for a chance to elect "one of their own". In addition, the media attacked any (read: Sarah Palin) who had the bad taste to bring this past to the attention of the public.

Big Media was largely successful in this task. That Obama had been a member of the Socialist New Party and ran under their banner was practically impossible to find anywhere except on the Internet.

Whenever one of these associations becomes more than the traditional Mouthpiece Media can bear and the president is asked about them, he usually responds in one of two ways.

1. He blames his staff.

From Obama's Inability to Hire Good Help Rears Its Head … Again:

We started covering Sen. Barack Obama's inability to hire good staffers in June 2007, when he blamed staffers for some opposition research trying to link Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, to outsourcing in India; for injecting some venom in the David Geffen/Hillary Clinton fight; and for missing an event with firefighters in New Hampshire.

In December, we noted again that Obama was blaming the answers on a 1996 questionnaire on a staffer; and was blaming his touring with "cured" ex-gay gospel singer Donnie McClurkin (which antagonized gays and lesbians) on bad vetting by his staff.

Those five buck-passing incidents were apparently not enough.

ABC's Jake Tapper eventually lists 14 incidents where the President, when caught or confronted with an unpleasant fact, blamed his staff for the problem.

Memo to President Obama: order a plaque to hang in the Oval Office:
"Good help is really really hard to find. Really."

2. He didn't know.
From DBKP's Barack Obama: Senator I-Didnt-Know, Nov 2 2008:
There have been other instances of Barack Obama pleading ignorance about unpleasant information once its reported (Father Michael Pfleger, for one).

Which may lead some to affectionately refer to Barack Obama as “Senator I-Didn’t-Know.”
On his release of medical, college and university records, Obama’s answer is silence.
When speaking of the future and his plans, Obama’s rhetoric is precise.

On information unearthed about his past, his response has many times been, “I didn’t know.”

MORE on the I-Don't-Know meme: Acorn Who?

Mr. Obama took great pains to act as if he barely knew about Acorn. In fact, his association goes back almost 20 years. In 1991, he took time off from his law firm to run a voter-registration drive for Project Vote, an Acorn partner that was soon fully absorbed under the Acorn umbrella. The drive registered 135,000 voters and was considered a major factor in the upset victory of Democrat Carol Moseley Braun over incumbent Democratic Senator Alan Dixon in the 1992 Democratic Senate primary.

Mr. Obama's success made him a hot commodity on the community organizing circuit. He became a top trainer at Acorn's Chicago conferences. In 1995, he became Acorn's attorney, participating in a landmark case to force the state of Illinois to implement the federal Motor Voter Law. That law's loose voter registration requirements would later be exploited by Acorn employees in an effort to flood voter rolls with fake names.

Many in the country and a few in the media are starting to wonder the president's push for rapid passage of bills that would fundamentally change the country. Changes that would not only limit individual freedom in the name of the "collective good", but also, some say, destroy capitialism.

If only the ones in the media had been more curious in 2008, the rest of the country wouldn't be so puzzled now.

Barack Obama: Senator I-Don't-Know

Obama and Unpleasant Revelations
The Standard Obama Response:
"I Didn't Know"

Bill Ayers
Aunt Zeituni
Rev. Jeremiah Wright

Zeituni Onyango

Barack Obama's aunt, who attended Obama's U.S. Senate swearing-in ceremony, was discovered living in a Boston slum. She's living in the USA illegally in public housing.

Living in poverty, she still had the means to make a donation to her nephew's campaign--which was returned when the story got publicity.

Obama's response?

"Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed."

That was the Obama campaign's stock answer to any unpleasant news which makes its way into the Mainstream Media--a feat in itself.

The Associated Press found that Obama's aunt had been instructed to leave the country four years ago by an immigration judge who rejected her request for asylum from her native Kenya. The woman, Zeituni Onyango (zay-TUHN on-YANG-oh), is living in public housing in Boston and is the half-sister of Obama's late father.
--Obama says he didn't know aunt's illegal status

The answer has been used before and seems to satisfy any MSM curiosity about Barack Obama's family and friends.

Rev. Jeremiah Wright

  • "No no no! God damn America!"

  • "The U.S. of K.K.K.A."

  • “We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.”

  • “We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” [September 2001]

  • “Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!…We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.”

  • “Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain’t! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty.”

  • “The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for over 40 years now. Divestment has now hit the table again as a strategy to wake the business community and wake up Americans concerning the injustice and the racism under which the Palestinians have lived because of Zionism.”

The above are famous quotes by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who for 20 years was Barack Obama's pastor--until Wright became politically inconvenient.

A Wright sermon called "The Audacity to Hope" inspired Barack Obama's remarks at the 2004 Democratic Convention and provided the title of Obama's second book.
--10 Things You Didn't Know About the Rev. Jeremiah Wright

Obama's response?

"I didn't know about all these statements. I knew about one or two of these statements that had been made."
--Just What Did Obama Know About Wright's Past Sermons?

Bill Ayers

[ABOVE: Bill Ayers in photo published on September 11, 2001]

Bill Ayers, was one of the leaders of the Weather Underground, a group that bombed the Pentagon and police stations. Ayers remains convinced that he "didn't do enough" during his bombing days.

Barack Obama worked with Bill Ayers for years. Obama was hired by Ayers. Obama helped Ayers distribute millions of dollars to many radical recipients. Ayers held one of the first fund-raisers for Barack Obama's Illinois state senate race.

When news of Obama's association and friendship with Ayers surfaced. The Obama responses were disingenuous.

"Just one of the thousands of people I know."

"Just some guy from the neighborhood."

Obama has lied repeatedly about his relationship with the unrepentant domestic terrorist. He spent years working for Ayers, promoting Ayers’ causes. Even CNN won’t buy the Obama line any longer.
--CNN: Obama’s lying about William Ayers

Obama's latest responses to the issue of Bill Ayers?

"When he went he certainly didn't know the history [of Ayers' domestic terrorism]." --chief Obama strategist David Axelrod to CNN - arguing for the first time since the story surfaced early this year that Obama was unaware of Ayers' past.

There have been other instances of Barack Obama pleading ignorance about unpleasant information once its reported (Father Michael Pfleger, for one).

Which may lead some to affectionately refer to Barack Obama as "Senator I-Don't-Know."

Obama Debate Talking Points: Any Mention of Bill Ayers is Dishonorable

Obama Spin Cycle Begins Hours Ahead of Debate
Talking Points Already Issued to Media

All Mention of Bill Ayers is "Dishonorable"

The Obama campaign does what it does best: talk and issue talking points.

Obama Campaign Issues Talking Points Ahead of Debate

* This is John McCain's last chance to turn this race around and somehow convince the American people that his erratic response to this economic crisis doesn't disqualify him from being President.

* Just this weekend the weekend, John McCain vowed to "whip Obama's you-know-what" at the debate, and he's indicated that he'll be bringing up Bill Ayers to try to distract voters.

* So we know that Senator McCain will come ready to attack Barack Obama and bring his dishonorable campaign tactics to the debate stage.

Obama continues to lead on the economic crisis with a rescue plan for Main Street.

* Over the course of the campaign, Barack Obama has laid out a set of policies that will grow our middle class and strengthen our economy.

* But he knows we face an immediate economic emergency that requires urgent action - on top of the plans he's already laid out - to help workers and families and communities struggling right now.

* That's why Barack Obama is introducing a comprehensive four-part Rescue Plan for the Middle Class - to immediately to stabilize our financial system, provide relief to families and communities, and help struggling homeowners.

* This is a plan that can and should be implemented immediately.

* Obama has shown steady leadership during this crisis and offered concrete solutions to move the country forward - and his Rescue Plan for the Middle Class builds on the plans to strengthen the economy and rebuild the middle class that he's laid out over the course of this campaign.

* Already in this campaign, he's unveiled plans to give 95 percent of workers and their families a tax cut, eliminate income taxes for seniors making under $50,000, bring down the cost of health care for families and businesses; and create millions of new jobs by investing in the renewable energy sources.

* John McCain has been erratic and unsteady since this crisis began - staggering from position to position and trying to change the subject away from the economy by launching false character attacks.

One of the singular accomplishments of Barack Obama's campign has been to be able to set the terms of all debate and talk about Obama.

Anything outside of what the Obama campaign approves is "dishonorable" or "racist".

Which is immediately echoed in the compliant Mainstream Media.

Obama and His Bill Ayers Connection
McCain Interview: Doesn’t Give a Damn About Bill Ayers

Bob McCarty Writes

Mark Reardon, host of The Mark Reardon Show on St. Louis radio station KMOX-AM 1120, interviewed John McCain yesterday and got quite a statement out of the Republican Party presidential nominee regarding Barack Obama and his relationship with unrepentant domestic terrorist Bill Ayers.

Asked whether he would make the relationship an issue during the third and final presidential debate at Hofstra University Wednesday evening, McCain virtually assured Reardon he would before explaining his reasoning:

"It's not that I give a damn about some old washed-up terrorist and his terrorist wife who in 2001 said they wished they had bombed more. What I care about — and what the American people care about — is whether he is being truthful with the American people."

It's a great interview. To listen to the entire interview, click here and then select "Mark Reardon (10/13/08) John McCain" from the podcast lineup on the right side of The Mark Reardon Show web site.

Obama, Bill Ayers: CNN Reports Obama-Ayers Connection Went Deeper

Your Ad Here

“But the relationship between Obama and Ayers went much deeper, ran much longer, and was much more political than Obama said.”
--CNN Special Investigative Unit Report, October 6 2008

"For Obama, the chairmanship of the $100 million Annenberg board helped vault him from Southside Chicago lawyer to political player--and that too, has another connection to Bill Ayers."

----CNN Special Investigative Unit Report, October 6 2008

A CNN Special Investigative Unit ran a report on Barack Obama and Bill Ayers last week and it's conclusion?

Barack Obama was not telling the truth when he said that Ayers was "just some guy in the neighborhood".

Or, as he told Bill O'Reilly, "One of the thousands of people I know."

Even as the New York Times covered up the Ayers connection for Barack Obama, CNN reported that that was not the case.

When it's too big for even CNN to gloss over, there may be a chance of the average Joe finding out the truth.

What is the truth about Barack Obama and Bill Ayers?

Clearly, it is not what the Obama campaign has said, even though their story line is an ever-changing one--as more facts about the Obama-Ayers relationship surface.

Ayers said "I want to puke" every time he thinks about the United States of America.

Jeremiah Wright said, "God Damn America"--and Barack Obama sat in Wright's church for twenty years listening to his "Hate America" sermons.

Obama didn't bomb the Pentagon. Obama didn't say "God Damn America". Obama didn't say that he "was proud of the USA" for the first time this past year--that was his wife, Michelle Obama.

Obama did say that "Fundamental change is coming to this country."

A look at the people Barack Obama surrounded himself with might shed some light on what type of "fundamental changes" he's talking about.

Obama calls any reference to Bill Ayers a "distraction from the issues".

As Obama has no legislative record--beyond ceremonial and party-line Senate votes--and has made his medical, birth, college, and university records impossible to access, we think his associates and their views are an issue.

There is not much left to shed light on who Barack Obama is and what he thinks--except his answers concerning his many questionable connections.

And CNN has reported that, at least on the Bill Ayers issue: Obama has not been telling the truth.

Obama's Made Much of it Impossible to Access

Who is Barack Obama?

It's not much help asking Obama supporters: they don't know and in many cases, don't care.

It's not much help to look at Obama's meager record. For a man running for president, Obama himself has made most of what little records there are, impossible to access.

It's not much help asking Barack Obama himself. Whenever it has been impossible for the Mainstream Media to ignore some aspect of Obama's record which does surface, he has run from it or insisted that he was unaware of what the record reveals.

* Reverend Jeremiah "God Damn America" Wright? After vigorously defending Wright, Obama ran from him claiming that he sat in Wright's church for 20 years and never heard him say any of those unpleasant things about America.

* At first, Obama claimed that Bill Ayers was "just some guy from the neighborhood" or "one of the thousands of people I know". Bill O'Reilly bought it.

Others didn't. It was shown that Obama had a years-long relationship of working with Ayers, whose views on America (Every time I think of America, it makes me want to puke.") are well-known. Obama spokesmen first claimed that Obama didn't know about Ayers' past. Even that was hard for some in the MSM (Time's Mark Halperin) to swallow.

Obama then said he assumed that Ayers had been "rehabilitated".

We'll leave that as a judgment call.

* Obama's relationship with ACORN was something that Obama spoke proudly of--until the massive voter fraud was exposed. Then the Obama camp's position was that Obama "never worked for ACORN".

Who is Barack Obama?

Instead of asking questions, Big Media attacks those who do.

Instead of answering questions, the Obama campaign ignores them.

24 days before the election and a MSM that was buzzing about "anger" can talk about nothing but "hatred".

So we've had nearly 8 years of lefty assassination fantasies about George W. Bush, and Bill Ayers' bombing campaign is explained away as a consequence of him having just felt so strongly about social justice, but a few people yell things at McCain rallies and suddenly it's a sign that anger is out of control in American politics? It's nice of McCain to try to tamp that down, and James Taranto sounds a proper cautionary note -- but, please, can we also note the staggering level of hypocrisy here? (And that's before we get to the Obama campaign's thuggish tactics aimed at silencing critics.)

The Angry Left has gotten away with all sorts of beyond-the-pale behavior throughout the Bush Administration. The double standards involved -- particularly on the part of the press -- are what are feeding this anger. (Indeed, as Ann Althouse and John Leo have noted, the reporting on this very issue is dubious).
--Glenn Reynolds, NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE?

Who is Barack Obama?

Supporters mistakenly assert that Obama has released his medical records. On May 30, the L.A. Times wrote:

Although he hasn’t had a physical in 16 months, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has been “in excellent health” and is physically ready to serve as president, his longtime physician wrote in a letter released by the campaign today.

The letter contained relatively few details but noted that Obama has a family history of cancer – his mother died of ovarian cancer and a grandfather of prostate cancer. A prostate-specific antigen test detected no issues for Obama, however.

Contrast this with John McCain.

The overview was contained in a one-page letter with no supporting documentation. “With no surgery or hospital stays, this is a complete summary of his doctor visits and medical records for the past two decades,” said campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki.

The brief Obama letter contrasted with Arizona Sen. John McCain’s decision to let a selected group of reporters spend three hours with nearly 1,200 pages of health records last week.

One page from Obama's doctor vs. 1200 pages which John McCain allowed reporters to access. As an acquaintance remarked, "I've only been in the hospital once in the last 40 years and I've got pages of medical records. What gives?"

ABC News said much the same.

The release of a scant one-page summary for 21 years of care brought some criticism to the Obama campaign – especially when compared to the thousands of pages of medical records released by McCain.

Who is Barack Obama?

From the Berg v. Obama federal lawsuit, we "learn that Obama went by...5 different names with the lawsuit naming him as the defendant who is or was known as Barack Hussein Obama, Barry Soetoro, Barry Obama, Barack Dunham, and Barry Dunham "

Five different names, the refusal to provide transcripts or school records, the refusal to provide an official birth certificate when asked in a lawsuit, and so on and so forth. I am sure Obama couldn't have done this all by himself. I'm sure he's had lots of help that got him where he is today and vie for a spot to become the President of the United States.
--The Two Faces of Obama: Who is He?

Who is Barack Obama?

Barack Obama's lone legislative accomplishment in the U.S. Senate has been the introduction of his Global Poverty Act of 2007.

"...the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs."

Estimated cost? More than $2800 for every man, woman and child in the U.S.A.--billions more than the financial bailout bill.

Who is Barack Obama?

What's the big deal with Barack Obama and his aversion to releasing records that may shed light on his past?

When Stanley Kurtz was finally allowed access to the Anneberg Challenge records, they revealed a load of things the Obama campaign would rather not talk about--and the MSM didn't, except to whitewash the Bill Ayers connection.

We're curious. That the election is only 24 days away and the Obama campaign has gotten to this point without releasing these many records is an indictment of a Mainstream Media more interested in cheerleading than investigating.

Forget investigating--how about just asking some questions?

24 days until the election and we wonder, "Who is Barack Obama and why won't he release his records?"

One can only hope this will change before election day.

New York Times Continues its Whitewash of Obama-Ayers

Your Ad Here

New York Times
Practicing the Politics of Attack

The former journalistic enterprise known as the New York Times may have fired Jayson Blair in May 2003, but his flame still burns brightly in the Times' editorial office.

Blair was the Times' reporter that plagiarized and fabricated facts to fill in his many stories. One Times' editor wanted to fire Blair in 2002 for the many mistakes and errors that appeared in his stories.

Instead, Blair was promoted.

Apparently, it hasn't escaped the notice of the remaining NYT editors that the way to get ahead at the floundering fish-wrap is to fabricate facts--whether in stories or editorials.

Just minutes after the debate ended last night, the New York Times projectile-vomited a load of anti-McCain-Palin vitriol disguised as an unsigned editorial. No wonder its author wished to remain anonymous: the editorial hurled unsubstantiated charges at the McCain-Palin campaign while purposely ignoring or covering up information that it finds unhelpful to its viewpoint.

It began with:

It is a sorry fact of American political life that campaigns get ugly, often in their final weeks. But Senator John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin have been running one of the most appalling campaigns we can remember.

They have gone far beyond the usual fare of quotes taken out of context and distortions of an opponent’s record — into the dark territory of race-baiting and xenophobia. Senator Barack Obama has taken some cheap shots at Mr. McCain, but there is no comparison.

Although there were references to the debate in the editorial--giving the impression that the unnamed Times' writer had watched it--like a good deal of Times' material, it likely was written before the event even took place. Then sprinkled with a few references to the televised showdown to give the piece some ambiance.

The author didn't need the second presidential debate as window dressing for his shrill attack on McCain. It could have been published a month ago or a week from now.

The Times editorial then descended into outright journalistic fraud--over-the-top even for the Times. That was quite a feat, given that the Times' ran a ten-month long cover operation for presidential candidate, John Edwards. The Times' operation was blown when Edwards confessed on ABC's Nightline and forced the paper to explain to its dwindling readership why it had swept the matter under the carpet.

This past week, Sarah Palin and the McCain campaign began doing what the Times failed to do: investigate the years-long association between Barack Obama and domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers.

Instead of investigating, the Times' writer hurls invective at the McCain campaign for having the nerve to bring up the unpleasant matter. The Obama-Ayers connection is one that Barack Obama has mis-represented--and the Times is providing the Obama camapign as much cover on the issue as it possibly can.

That line follows passages in Ms. Palin’s new stump speech in which she twists Mr. Obama’s ill-advised but fleeting and long-past association with William Ayers, founder of the Weather Underground and confessed bomber.

By the time she’s done, she implies that Mr. Obama is right now a close friend of Mr. Ayers — and sympathetic to the violent overthrow of the government. The Democrat, she says, “sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.”

Her demagoguery has elicited some frightening, intolerable, responses. A recent Washington Post report said at a rally in Florida this week a man yelled “Kill him!” as Ms. Palin delivered that line and others shouted epithets at an African-American member of a TV crew.

Anyone who has done the most elementary research would know better than to characterize the Obama-Ayers connection as "fleeting". The Times had done some elementary research on Obama's connections to Bill Ayers and yet, chose to mis-characterize them as "fleeting".

A Times story on Saturday was headlined Obama and ’60s Bomber - A Look Into Crossed Paths.

Steve Diamond and Stanley Kurtz--both journalists who tracked down Obama-Ayers material begged to differ. Kurtz called the Times' story a "whitewash". Diamond, who gave the Times access to a slew of documents and was interviewed by three different reporters, also called the Times' story a "whitewash".

After the NYT's piece appeared, Diamond wrote, "I was interviewed at length by the New York Times for this story - in fact, this was the third Times reporter to interview me about the Ayers/Obama relationship - and I provided the Times with the letters I discuss here. They are not mentioned in the story at all."

It may not have helped that the reporter, Scott Shane, specializes in the FBI and CIA and did not seem well equipped to understand the structure and dynamics of a non profit entity like the Annenberg Challenge, had no apparent understanding of educational policy issues or debates, had no prior experience as far as I could tell with Chicago politics or culture and expressed his own sense of "boredom" with the Annenberg Challenge records he reviewed.

Instead of relying on the contemporaneous written record that documents Ayers direct personal involvement in the formation of the CAC board, the New York Times relies on the recollection, fourteen years later of "several" unnamed sources who say Ayers was not involved in Obama's recruitment to the board.

Diamond began his piece with, "Some months ago the Times reported without comment the Campaign's lie that the first time Obama met Ayers was in late 1995 at a "meet and greet" held at Ayers' home for Obama when Obama launched his campaign for the state senate."

One would think that The New York Times should have been embarrassed enough by its scandalous behavior in the John Edwards' scandal--when the struggling paper substituted campaign party lines for investigative journalism--that it would have learned a lesson.

It did not.

This ugly, desperate editorial does the John Edwards affair one better: the paper knows better about Obama and Ayers, has access to contrary facts unearthed by the sweat of others and chooses to ignore it all to the benefit of its chosen candidate.

In the wake of the Blair scandal, the Times own internal investigation--"The Siegal committee--made several recommendations, many of which have since been instituted at the paper, including the appointment of a public editor to encourage access to the paper and to monitor readers' complaints about the paper's performance.
--Wikipedia: Jayson Blair

That appointed public editor must have been one of the victims of the Times' recent layoffs.

The unsigned editorial finishes with: "But surely, Mr. McCain and his team can come up with a better answer to that problem than inciting more division, anger and hatred."

The New York Times author should be intimately acquainted with anger and hatred.

This editorial illustrates both--along with pride, sloth and a few other deadly sins thrown in for good measure.

Practically, one of the few things the editorial got right was its opening sentence:

"It is a sorry fact of American political life that campaigns get ugly, often in their final weeks."

One of the ugliest is the former journalistic enterprise known as the New York Times.

Sarah Palin on Obama-Ayers: As Fast as Others Uncover, The MSM Covers Up

Your Ad Here

Barack Obama, Bill Ayers and the Mainstream Media
Lies, Damn Lies, AP "Analysis" and CNN "Fact Checks"

The AP, which has put in yeoman's work as a mouthpiece of the Obama campaign, will be billing the campaign time-and-half for DOUGLASS K. DANIEL's "Analysis: Palin's words carry racial tinge".

Daniel not only attacked Republican Vice-presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, for bringing up the connection between Barack Obama and domestic terrorist, Bill Ayers--in effect, the AP hack calls Palin a liar.

Then he called, in effect, a racist.

Her reference to Obama's relationship with William Ayers, a member of the Vietnam-era Weather Underground, was exaggerated at best if not outright false. No evidence shows they were "pals" or even close when they worked on community boards years ago and Ayers hosted a political event for Obama early in his career.

"Douglass, I tawt I taw a racist!"

After the AP and CNN's (Non-Performance) on the John Edwards Scandal, why would they expect their readers/viewers to trust them?

Daniel might amended his sentence to "no evidence that the AP could uncover".

The AP, readers will remember, is that shining star of investigative journalism that imposed a blackout on John Edwards' scandal news for ten months--in the midst of Edwards running for president. After Edwards confessed, the AP scrambled--not to check out leads or follow the Edwards hush money trail--but to try and excuse its lack of investigation, reporting, ethics, standards and basic human curiosity.

Shorthand for the AP's performance in the John Edwards affair/scandal/cover-up:

CYA + BS = AP

Guess who the AP's chief apologist in explaining why the "news" organization didn't report any John Edwards' news--until he gave them his blessing and confessed?

Why, it was Douglass K. Daniel!

ALSO at DBKP:

Click on banner to access 100 DBKP stories and videos on the John Edwards scandal.

First, Edwards confessed. Then Daniel confessed that "Reporters found Edwards' affair tough to prove.

Well, AP reporters found it tough to prove.

Just like Douglass K. Daniel finds that there is "no evidence" that Obama and Ayers were "palling around".

As in the John Edwards affair, it's too tough for the AP to assign a reporter to the Obama-Ayers story: that might result in an AP reporter giving his bosses some unpleasant news.

Better to let others do the heavy lifting, then send in Douglass K. Daniel to apologize later for the AP not doing its job.

"Douglass, come quick! There a racist over there!"

Patterico is sick of Any Argument Against Barack Obama Is By Definition Racist:

I’m sick of the race card being played whenever someone criticizes Barack Obama. Making the Ayers connection is hardly a racist ploy, but that’s what we’re being told by the AP today. There is literally no argument you can make against this man that will not be countered by cries of racism.

IF YOU CRITICIZE BARACK OBAMA OVER BILL AYERS, it's because you're a racist! sayeth Glenn Reynolds.

Well, of course. If you criticize Barack Obama over anything, it's because you're a racist. No doubt that'll hold true if he's elected President, too, which will call for strict anti-racism laws to keep such things under control . . . .

Hindrocket, Powerline wonders if the Douglass smear piece isn't "The Most Bizarre Journalistic Malpractice Yet?"

When the McCain campaign ran an ad that had a white woman in it, it was denounced as racist. When it ran an ad that had an African-American man (Franklin Raines) in it, it was denounced as racist. Now the McCain campaign links Obama to a white man, the former terrorist, and still anti-American, Bill Ayers. That's racist too. I think we've exhausted just about all the possibilities. The only non-racist thing McCain can do, apparently, is concede the election.

Sarah Palin herself says, "“The Associated Press is wrong. The comments are about an association that has been known but hasn’t been talked about, and I think it’s fair to talk about where Barack Obama kicked off his political career, in the guy’s living room.”

Squelching news disadvantageous to Barack Obama, a headlong rush to Sarah Palin, rigged polls, exit polls, declaring Biden and Obama the "winners" of debates, incestuous interviews of other MSM Obama shills: is not all of this not more proof that the MSM is Actively Engaged in Voter Suppression?

Truthteller at NoQuarter slices and dices Daniel, line-by-byline: [Douglass K. Daniel of the AP is NOT a Journalist]

WASHINGTON (AP) - By claiming that Democrat Barack Obama is “palling around with terrorists” and doesn’t see the U.S. like other Americans, vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin targeted key goals for a faltering campaign.
And though she may have scored a political hit each time, her attack was unsubstantiated and carried a racially tinged subtext that John McCain himself may come to regret.

[Sarah Palin’s discussion of Obama’s deep and controversial ties to Bill Ayers is not “unsubstantiated,” and it is certainly not an “attack.” Indeed, she offers a factual analysis of the available data, data Steve Diamond and others have made available to readers of No Quarter. And nothing about Sarah Palin’s words contain a “racially tinged subtext,” unless, of course, you are a compromised journalist who must project racism on everything you encounter in order to repress the racist impulses you compulsively disavow in your vain attempt to conceal your racism. I challenge Douglass K. Daniel to cite one sentence Sarah Palin utters that mentions or even alludes to race. Too bad he will fail, as she does not mention Obama’s race at all.]

John McCain, Sarah Palin and thousands
of their racist friends at a recent rally

CNN jumps in and tries to "fact check" Palin's remarks.

Verdict: False. There is no indication that Ayers and Obama are now "palling around," or that they have had an ongoing relationship in the past three years. Also, there is nothing to suggest that Ayers is now involved in terrorist activity or that other Obama associates are.

"I wish someone would ask [Obama] just once: "Then tell me, would it be ok for a child who was eight years old on 9/11--to then have a friendship with Osama bin Laden later in life as an adult"?
--comment at Free Republic on Obama's friendship with Bill Ayers
[From DBKP's Obama, Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers: The 'Tangential' Bill Ayers]

Readers will also remember how CNN leaped to "fact check" John Edwards: CNN didn't report a word until Edwards gave them permission by confessing.

CNN told viewers/readers what the "news" network thought of them when it was silent on John Edwards' scandal.

NewsBusters unloaded a double-barrel fact-check on CNN's "fact check" [McCain Camp Finally Expose Obama Ayers Connection, Media Quick to the Rescue and CNN Ignores Bernardine Dohrn's Terrorist Past While Defending Obama ].

For good measure, NewsBusters' Todd Warner Huston thinks Douglass K. Daniel's view of Sarah Palin is "idiotic".

Talk about an idiotic assertion, but the Associated Press just claimed that Governor Sarah Palin is a racist for saying that Obama used to "pal around with terrorists." According to the AP's Douglass K. Daniel, Palin is a racist because the word "terrorist" is construed now-a-days to mean a "dark-skinned radical Muslim" so that makes her a "racist" in his blinkered view.

No Links between Barack Obama and Bill Ayers?

What are connections between Obama and Ayers? Let us count the ways:

* Obama and Ayers worked closely on the Chicago Anneberg Challenge
When Obama made his first run for political office, articles in both the Chicago Defender and the Hyde Park Herald featured among his qualifications his position as chairman of the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a foundation where Ayers was a founder and guiding force. Obama assumed the Annenberg board chairmanship only months before his first run for office, and almost certainly received the job at the behest of Bill Ayers. During Obama’s time as Annenberg board chairman, Ayers’s own education projects received substantial funding. Indeed, during its first year, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge struggled with significant concerns about possible conflicts of interest.

* In November of 1997, William Ayres and Barack Obama participated in a Community Service Center’s monthly discussion series on issues affecting the city of Chicago. The University of Chicago News said, "Ayers will be joined by Illinois State Sen. Barack Obama, Senior Lecturer in the University of Chicago Law School, who is working to block proposed legislation that would throw more juvenile offenders into the adult system . ."

* Obama kicked off his political career by announcing at Ayers home.

Stanley Kurtz again: "when Ayers and Dorhn hosted that kickoff for the first Obama campaign, it was not a random happenstance, but merely further evidence of a close and ongoing political partnership."

* Hillary Clinton brought up that the Obama-Ayers relationship on the Woods Fund.
Clinton is correct that both men served together on the board of the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based charity that develops community groups to help the poor. Ayers joined the board in 1999 and is still on it. Obama left it in December 2002 after nine years.

* Obama and Dohrn worked for elite law firm Sidley and Austin

and The Obama-Ayers Top Ten: Highlights of the 20 year Obama-Ayers Connection

* Obama publicly endorsed Ayers book

Obama was perfectly aware of Ayers’ radical views, since he read and publically endorsed, without qualification, Ayers’ book on juvenile crime. That book is quite radical, expressing doubts about whether we ought to have a prison system at all, comparing America to South Africa’s apartheid system, and contemptuously dismissing the idea of the United States as a kind or just country.

This is not all: this is only what has been uncovered, despite the best efforts of the Obama campaign and the Mainstream Media to keep the whole issue under control.

Fact check this--DBKP has.

The best of the rest responses:
* Little Green Footballs: Associated Press Hits Bottom, Digs
* SARAH PALIN RACIST!... AP Says VP Candidate's Attacks on Obama Were Mean & Racist
* Palin-bashing Associated Press cries “RAAAACISM!”.

Malkin notes that DKD was "Putting the "ass" in 'Associated Press"".

Finally, Jonah Goldberg at NRO, calls the AP "Outrageously Asinine":
"The whole argument ultimately depends on the assumption that Americans are too stupid and racist to make any meaningful distinctions about anything." (See "We the Sheeple" image above.)

Contrast and compare the AP and CNN's responses to Sarah Palin calling out Barack Obama on his unpleasant connections to Bill Ayers with their ten-month hiatus on calling out John Edwards.

CNN, AP, Time, Newsweek, the New York Times and the rest of the MSM were guilty of Missing in Action on the John Edwards story.

On the Barack Obama-Bill Ayers story, they're guilty of something that goes beyond the MSM's normal bias.

The McCain campaign's Tucker Bounds hits the bulls-eye:

"The last four weeks of this election will be about whether the American people are willing to turn our economy and national security over to Barack Obama, a man with little record, questionable judgment, and ties to radical figures like unrepentant domestic terrorist William Ayers. Americans need to ask themselves if they've ever befriended an unrepentant terrorist, or had a convicted felon help them buy their house -- because those aren't smears, those are true facts about Barack Obama." ---Tucker Bounds, spokesman McCain-Palin 2008

As quickly as those interested in the curious connections between Barack Obama and Bill Ayers--led by Stanley Kurtz and Steve Diamond--uncover information, the Mainstream Media just as quickly covers it up.

Douglas K. Daniel's attack, the New York Times' whitewash and CNN's "Fact Check" of Sarah Palin are only the first of many in this war of Big Media disinformation.

Obama, Bill Ayers: Mainstream Media Explain Away Obama-Ayers Connection

McCain Campaign Brings Up the Subject
Of Barack Obama's Anti-American Associates
MSM Leaps to Obama's Defense

Bill Ayers and Barack Obama "crossed paths" according to NY Times; AP Helps Out

John McCain's campaign FINALLY is bringing up the many, many questionable associates of Barack Obama. The Obama campaign will respond through paid advertisements and, more importantly, through unpaid political ads masquerading as "news stories" in the Dinosaur Press of the Mainstream Media (MSM).

MIKE ALLEN, Politico, reports Exclusive: Obama to call McCain 'erratic in crisis'
. According to Allen, Obama is launching a pre-emptive strike: he's going to address his questionable Chicago buddies before McCain's campaign commercials "portray him as having sinister connections to controversial Chicagoans."

Obama officials call it political jujitsu – turning the attacks back on the attacker.

McCain officials had said early in the weekend that they plan to begin advertising after Tuesday’s debate that will tie Obama to convicted money launderer Tony Rezko and former Weathermen radical William Ayers.

But Obama isn’t waiting to respond. His campaign is going up Monday on national cable stations with a scathing ad saying: “Three quarters of a million jobs lost this year. Our financial system in turmoil. And John McCain? Erratic in a crisis. Out of touch on the economy. No wonder his campaign wants to change the subject.

“Turn the page on the financial crisis by launching dishonorable, dishonest ‘assaults’ against Barack Obama. Struggling families can't turn the page on this economy, and we can't afford another president who is this out of touch.”

The entire transcript of the Obama ad.

Barack Obama has already begun getting help in defusing the "sleazy, unAmerican associates" angle. The New York Times ran an article Saturday on Obama mentor, Bill Ayers, that was one part "downplay the Ayers connection" and two part Obama unpaid campaign ad.

SCOTT SHANE of the NYT starts the shilling in the headline, Obama and ’60s Bomber: A Look Into Crossed Paths. Got that? Obama and Ayers, they just "crossed paths", that's all.

Twenty-six years later, at a lunchtime meeting about school reform in a Chicago skyscraper, Barack Obama met Mr. Ayers, by then an education professor. Their paths have crossed sporadically since then, at a coffee Mr. Ayers hosted for Mr. Obama’s first run for office, on the schools project and a charitable board, and in casual encounters as Hyde Park neighbors.

The Times article has quotes aplenty from the Obama campaign and Chicago Mayor Daley to back up it's assertions that really, Ayers and Obama hardly know each other--and besides, these days, Ayers is just another nutty professor.

That attitude is widely shared in Chicago, but it is not universal. Steve Chapman, a columnist for The Chicago Tribune, defended Mr. Obama’s relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., his longtime pastor, whose black liberation theology and “God damn America” sermon became notorious last spring. But he denounced Mr. Obama for associating with Mr. Ayers, whom he said the University of Illinois should never have hired.

“I don’t think there’s a statute of limitations on terrorist bombings,” Mr. Chapman said in an interview, speaking not of the law but of political and moral implications.

“If you’re in public life, you ought to say, ‘I don’t want to be associated with this guy,’ ” Mr. Chapman said. “If John McCain had a long association with a guy who’d bombed abortion clinics, I don’t think people would say, ‘That’s ancient history.’ ”

Sarah Palin began the assault by addressing the subject first broached by Hillary Clinton: Obama's chummy past relationship with domestic terrorist Ayers. Almost immediately, the Obama campaign, through the AP, put out a press release rebuttal disguised as a news story: Palin says Obama 'palling around' with terrorists.

In remarks to GOP donors in Englewood, Colo., on Saturday, Palin said Obama seems to see the U.S. as being so imperfect that, in her words, "he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."

Obama's AP spokesperson, JIM KUHNHENN, defended Obama noting that "Obama served on a charity board with Ayers in Chicago and has denounced his past activities."

But DBKP readers know that as far as Obama’s Ties to 1970’s Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers go, there is Disassociation and Little Condemnation

Kuhnhenn thought it of no import to mention that Obama announced his candidacy from Ayer's home or that Ayers wrote the grant proposal for the program that Obama chaired.

Barack Obama would like people to believe that Bill Ayers is "just one of thousands of people that I know." [Obama, Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers: The ‘Tangential’ Bill Ayers ]

The MSM doesn't mention Bill Ayers at all for months and suddenly, two separate stories appear--which downplay and defend both Ayers and Obama's association with him--within 24 hours of each other? Just in time to defuse potentially-damaging McCain commercials scheduled for after the next debate this week?

What's the chances?

Doesn't sound like there's any coordination between the Obama campaign and its allies in the press, does there?

The MSM is great for parroting the Obama campaign lines--and horrible when it comes to investigating the Chosen One. Obama is the Standard-bearer for over 90% of the people working in the MSM.

How about one or two tough questions for Obama?

Might not one MSM reporter be interested in Obama's many anti-American associates? Might Obama have been influenced by any of them when he accused the American military of killing civilians last year? From Obama: US Troops in Afghanistan must do more than kill civilians:

Asked whether he would move U.S. troops out of Iraq to better fight terrorism elsewhere, he brought up Afghanistan and said, "We've got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there."

No connection between the above Obama statement and Michelle Obama stating that she was never "proud of America" until her husband ran for president? No connection between the above statement and Obama's pastor of twenty years announcing "God Damn America!" from the pulpit? No connection between the statement above and Bill Ayers' announcing that "I realized...America was an evil... and that I was... living inside the belly of the beast...."?

Is Obama the Jack Murtha of the Senate?

There's been much written in Big Media about how "historic" the selection of Barack Obama as the Democrat candidate has been. That would be right, but a quite different reason.

How many presidential candidates have ever had a buddy (Bill Ayers) who was awarded a ring from the North Vietmanese--while we were at war with them--made from down American airplanes?

The McCain-Palin campaign can run thousands of ads about Obama and his associates. But the McCain campaign will never have enough money to counter the never-ending, unceasing ads running in the MSM disguised as news stories.

All of this would be of little interest if Barack Obama were running for a local office in the Chicago area.

But Obama is running to become commander-in-chief of the United States and must swear an oath to defend the Constitution against "enemies, both foreign and domestic".

Funny how a lot of Obama's associates and family think that the enemy is the United States itself--and have publicly said so more than once.

The flacks and hacks that populate the Mainstream Media feel it is their job to explain it away.

All in the guise of objective "news" stories.
