May 2, 2011, a holiday in the Philippines? | Labor Day Holiday on May 2?

Many people have been asking whether May 2, 2011 will be set as a holiday in the Philippines.

The previous administration had this policy of moving holidays to another date close to a weekend so that workers could "spend more days with their families" and "to strengthen the Philippine economy by promoting domestic travel and tourism". Since Labor Day 2011 falls on a Sunday, many are wondering whether the holiday is going to be moved on Monday, May 2, 2o11.

The answer would be, "No". The so called "holiday economics" had been junked by PNoy through the Proclamation No. 84 which mandates that "all holidays be observed on the day they actually fall instead of being moved to the nearest Monday for longer weekends as was the practice under the Arroyo administration."

On an ABS-CBN report, Malacañang spokesman Edwin Lacierda also said May 1, which falls on a Sunday, is the regular holiday for Labor Day - not May 2.

Sorry then to those who are hoping. But don't worry May 1, 2012 will be a Tuesday. Lol. :D

Labor Day 2011 jobs fairs to be conducted by DOLE nationwide

On Labor Day (May 1, 2011), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will be conducting mega-job fairs in strategic locations nationwide to help those who are unemployed.

The Labor Day job fairs will be held in SM malls and convention centers like the SM Baliwag in Bulacan, SM San Fernando in Pampanga, the Baguio Convention Center, SM in Naga, SM Bacolod and Iloilo, the Tacloban Convention Center, the Zamboanga WMSU Gym, SM Davao, the Cebu International Convention Center, and SM Cagayan De Oro.

It is going to be "BIG", indeed, since according to DOLE, there will be around 830,000 jobs offered by 14 government agencies and almost 1 million openings for jobs abroad.

Not sure about this one at all. Thirties vintage. Can't see the front. It IS what they used to call a "5 window coupe" though. My best guess......Chevrolet or Dodge.





1964 Ford Galaxie 500 with "Thunderbolt" style hood. Can't see the badge on the lower left front 1/4 but probably a 390 cu. in. That badge was reserved for the 390 and 427 engine options. Earlier models also had the same badge with "406"




1967 Shelby Cobra, looks like a clone. Not many of these originals Cobras left, most survivors are million dollar cars now. LOTS of clones around though and some are hard to tell from the originals without opening the hood. The original car built by Carroll Shelby (67 427) was equipped with a 427 cu. in. Ford "side oiler" although some clone builders were lucky enough to find one of the old original engines.. Absolutely KILLER automobile.

Entering Heritage Port on the Ohio River at Wheeling, WV, visitors are greeted by a life-size statue of native son, Walter Reuther, founder of the United Auto Workers and President of the CIO (Congress of Industrial Organizations).




A beautiful day, thunderous boats and a Labor Day weekend: what more could spectators want? How about free admission!




From the south entrance to the port, the Tijuana Taxi was the first hydroplane one sees.




The end of summertime--and the living is easy.




A number of cranes lifted the hydroplanes up, up and away into the awaiting Ohio River.










Thrills, chills and--hopefully--no spills.




In July 2008, Extreme Boats magazine had a feature article in their latest issue about the 2007 Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta.

The Wheeling Vintage Raceboat Regatta was awarded the Vintage Event of the Year from the American Power Boat Association. From Friendly City Regatta Wins Award

Wheeling has lived up to its reputation as the "Friendly City" for a second consecutive year in the eyes of the American Power Boat Association.

The association has declared Wheeling's Annual Vintage Raceboat Regatta the "Vintage Event of the Year" for 2007, an honor that also was awarded for 2006 after the first regatta was held in Wheeling. This is the first time the organization has bestowed the honor upon the same city two years in a row.

"The city's just been wonderful," said Debbie Joseph, the regatta's founder and main organizer.
