An eight-year-old Hasidic boy whose dismembered body was found in a fridge and a dumpster was brutally killed after getting lost and asking a man to help him get home.

Leiby Kletzky was allegedly abducted by 35-year-old Levi Aron while walking home alone for the first time from the Brooklyn-based Boyan Day Camp on 44th Street on Monday afternoon, sparking a city-wide police search.
After losing his way on the seven block walk home, the child asked the older man to help him - a most cruel chance encounter which led to him being kidnapped, suffocated and dismembered with a kitchen knife.

After being tracked down by police, Aron is said to have confessed to the brutal murder, saying he killed the child 'in a panic' after the search for the boy became high profile.

Police said Leiby stopped Aron to ask for directions after getting lost the first time he was allowed to walk home alone from summer camp.

'35 minutes later Leiby was in a 1990 brown Honda Accord with Levi Aron, who subsequently brought the boy to his apartment, killed him there and then dismembered his body,' Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.
'Leiby appeared to be lost. He encountered Aron and asked him for directions. It was just happenstance, and a terrible fate for this young boy.'
Aron, who works as a clerk in Kensington, was seized by police after he was spotted with the child on CCTV.

Footage showed Aron enter a dentist's office while the boy waited for him on the street, before he re-emerged and led Leiby to his car.
Detectives eventually managed to source the man's address after retrieving patient records from the practice, but by the time they raided his home, Leiby had been killed.

Police Commissioner Kelly said Aron had confessed to the murder, telling investigators he panicked and killed the boy once the search for the boy became so high profile.

UK woman Gina Robins microwaves neighbor’s kitten in retaliation for being thrown out of a party

I think this woman may face a harsher sentence than Casey Anthony.

A woman has been accused of microwaving her neighbour's kitten after she was allegedly thrown out of a party.

Gina Robins, 30, faces one charge of causing unnecessary suffering to the pet by putting it in the appliance at a house in Torquay, Devon, on February 16.

It is claimed the short-haired kitten, which was only a few months old, suffered devastating injuries and died.

Robins, wearing a black dress and a white coat, pleaded not guilty when she appeared before magistrates and only spoke to confirm her name and address.

The case is being brought forward by the RSPCA after its owner made a formal complaint. Robins, of Torquay, was granted bail and is due back before magistrates on August 12 for a pre-trial review.

A fan died Thursday when he fell from the left field stands during the Texas Rangers' game against the Oakland A's. The Rangers announced the death, which resulted when the man tried to catch a ball tossed into the stands.

The accident occurred one year and one day after another fan was seriously injured after he fell from the second deck at Rangers Ballpark, The Dallas Morning News noted.

Thursday's victim was not immediately identified.

Rangers president Nolan Ryan confirmed the death with the following statement:

"We are deeply saddened to learn that the man who fell has passed away as a result of this tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."


According to the Morning News and other reports, the accident occurred in the second inning. With the A's at bat, Conor Jackson hit a foul ball that went into left field. Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton retrieved the ball and tossed it toward the stands.

What started as a light-hearted blooper, ended in tragedy at the ballpark in Arlington.

30-year-old Shannon Stone, a firefighter and Ranger`s fan from Brownwood, fell to his death while trying to catch a ball thrown into the crowd by Ranger`s left-fielder Josh Hamilton. Stone was at the game with this son and as he caught the ball just over the railing he lost his balance falling head first more than 20-feet.

Initially Stone appeared alright, but he died in route to a Fort Worth hospital due to cardiac arrest.

Grizzly kills man in Yellowstone; First since '86

A man out on a hike with his wife in Yellowstone National Park's backcountry was killed by a female grizzly bear after the couple apparently surprised the bear and its cubs Wednesday, park officials said.

The attack was the first fatal bear mauling in the park since 1986.

"In an apparent attempt to defend a perceived threat to her cubs, the bear attacked and fatally wounded the man," the park stated in a statement. "Another group of hikers nearby heard the victim's wife crying out for help, and used a cell phone to call 911."
Investigators have been interviewing the woman about the bear attack, which took place on the Wapiti Lake Trail, close to Canyon Village and near the middle of the park, park spokesman Al Nash said. Park officials haven't taken any action against the bear, he said.

"This is complicated because of where this has occurred," Nash said. "It is in the backcountry of the park, and we have access challenges and limited communication."

The incident occurred on the Wapiti Lake trail, which is located east of the Grand Loop Road and south of Canyon Village, reports CBS affiliate KTVQ Billings. The husband and wife couple had traveled about a mile and a half in on the trail when they surprised the sow with cubs.

No visitors were injured by bears in the park in 2010.

Casey Anthony jurors anguished over verdict.

Information is going to come to light on how a Florida jury came to decide that Casey Anthony was not guilty. It doesn’t mean she was innocent.

I think she knows what happened. But we’ll never get to know.

I think the jury did what they were supposed to do based on the evidence, or lack of it. Many may find that hard to swallow. I find it hard to swallow too. But, I wasn’t in on the deliberations.

Jurors cried and were "sick to our stomachs" after acquitting Casey Anthony of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, one member of the panel said today.

"I did not say she was innocent," Jennifer Ford told ABC News. "I just said there was not enough evidence. If you cannot prove what the crime was, you cannot determine what the punishment should be."

"Everyone wonders why we didn't speak to the media right away," Ford added. "It was because we were sick to our stomach to get that verdict. We were crying and not just the women. It was emotional and we weren't ready. We wanted to do it with integrity and not contribute to the sensationalism of the trial."

The 12-strong Florida jury found Anthony, 25, not guilty of first-degree murder on Tuesday and also acquitted her of aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter of a child. She could have faced the death penalty if convicted.

Ford's comments came on the same day that an alternate juror said he agreed with the verdict.

But Russell Huekler, who sat in on all the deliberations as an alternate, told Orlando's FOX 35 he was not surprised by the verdict and believed the biggest factor for the decision was the testimony of Casey's father George Anthony.

"I agree wholeheartedly," Huekler said. "It was the right decision that they made. The prosecutors didn't meet the burden of proof. We had a lot of reasonable doubt there. They didn't show us the evidence good enough for a conviction."

Strauss-Kahn Accuser Files Libel Suit Against N.Y. Post

The hotel housekeeper in the Dominique Strauss-Kahn case filed a libel suit against The New York Post on Tuesday over a series of articles it published during the Fourth of July weekend claiming that she was a prostitute.

The housekeeper argues in the suit that front-page headlines such as “DSK Maid a Hooker,” “DSK ‘Refused to Pay’ Hooker Maid for Sex” and “She Saw Johns While in DA Protection!” — and the articles that went with them — were false, and that The Post knew or should have known that they were false.

The suit states at various points that the articles subjected the woman to humiliation, shame, scorn, emotional injury, embarrassment, loss of standing in the community, loss of self-esteem, public disgrace, severe and extreme emotional distress and “ridicule throughout the world.”

“In an apparent desperate attempt to bolster its rapidly plunging sales,” the suit states, “Defendant New York Post ran a series of defamatory articles.”

The suit, filed in State Supreme Court in the Bronx, where the woman lives, seeks unspecified monetary damages and asks that a judge bar The Post from publishing further such malicious untruths about her. It also names the reporters who wrote the stories as defendants.

The first article cited in the suit, “Maid cleaning up as ‘hooker’,” by Laura Italiano, ran July 2. Citing “a source close to the defense investigation,” it reports that the woman “was doing double duty as a prostitute, collecting cash on the side from male guests,” and “was allegedly purposely assigned to the Midtown hotel by her union because it knew she would bring in big bucks.” The suit states: “This false and scurrilous statement constitutes defamation and libel per se committed against the plaintiff.”

Media wrong again: Casey Anthony found not guilty of murdering 2 yr old daughter

For the past 3 years, the tabloids and the 24 hour cable stations put Casey Anthony on trial and convicted her in the court of public opinion. The so-called court watchers for the networks proclaimed on a daily basis that the Florida prosecutors were doing an excellent job, while also dubbing Casey’s defense lawyers as dim wits.

Well, the media is left with egg on their faces because a Florida jury found Anthony not guilty of the most serious charges. The prosecutors failed to do their job-prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Anthony did the crime.

Let’s remember how often the so-called experts are wrong!

A Florida jury has cleared Casey Anthony of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, bringing to a close a case that has captivated the American public for more than three years.

Anthony, 25, wept after the clerk read the verdict, which jurors reached after less than 11 hours of deliberation over two days.

She was charged with first-degree murder, which could have brought the death penalty if she had been convicted, but the jury, after a trial lasting more than a month, found her not guilty on all charges related to Caylee's death, including aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter. She was convicted of four counts of lying to investigators and could receive up to a year in jail for each count when Judge Belvin Perry sentences her Thursday.

She likely will get credit for spending much of the past three years in jail waiting for trial, so it's possible she could be released as soon as later this week.

After the verdict was read, Anthony hugged her attorney Jose Baez and later mouthed the words "thank you" to him.

Prosecutors sat solemnly in their seats, looking stunned. Prosecutor Jeff Ashton shook his head slightly from side to side in apparent disbelief. Across the room, Anthony's father wiped tears from his eyes. Without speaking to Casey, he and his wife left the courtroom escorted by police as the judge thanked the jury.

"We felt very strongly about our case. We always felt that (the prosecution's) case was built on nothing," defense attorney Jose Baez told Fox News' Geraldo Rivera. "The jury saw through all of the fantasy and forensics and saw through a lot of the lies presented before them."

"While we're happy for Casey, there are no winners in this case," Baez told reporters shortly after the verdict was read. "Caylee has passed on far, far too soon. And what my driving force has been for the last three years has been always to make sure that there has been justice for Caylee and Casey, because Casey did not murder Caylee. It's that simple."

New York motorcyclist dies from crash protesting mandatory helmet law

A New York man died Sunday while participating in a ride with 550 other motorcyclists to protest the state's mandatory helmet law.

Police said Philip A. Contos, 55, hit his brakes and his motorcycle fishtailed. Contos was sent over the handlebars of his 1983 Harley Davidson and hit his head on the pavement.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"The medical expert we discussed the case with who pronounced him deceased stated that he would've no doubt survived the accident had he been wearing a helmet," state Trooper Jack Keller told ABC News 9 in Syracuse.

Two top sex-crimes specialists on the Dominique Strauss-Kahn case had serious doubts about his accuser's credibility almost from the moment she reported an attack -- but they were booted from the investigation because of office politics.

Lisa Friel, then chief of the Manhattan DA's Sex Crimes Unit, and a senior investigator with the unit were tossed off the case after an internal battle over how to proceed, and less-experienced replacements ignored their concerns in a rush to present evidence to a grand jury, said multiple sources familiar with the rift.

Friel, who plans to step down on Sept. 1, had grown concerned about discrepancies in the maid's accounts of the alleged sex attack and got into a shouting match with prosecutor Ann Prunty, who is not part of the unit but was named to the "second chair" at the prosecutor's table.

Joan Illuzzi-Orbon, a respected prosecutor with little sex-crime experience, was added to the team and eventually took over.

Spurred by Chief Assistant DA Dan Alonso, that team focused on digging up dirt on DSK, sources said.

"It was Dan Alonso pushing hard for the grand jury," one insider said. "Friel was told to stand aside."

But shockingly nearly a quarter of Americans don't appear to know who exactly they are celebrating independence from - for the second year in a row.



While 76 per cent correctly said Great Britain, 19 per cent were unsure, and 5 per cent mentioned another country.

Last year the same Marist poll showed that 26 per cent of Americans did knot know the answer.

It was young people letting the side down with 67 per cent of those under 30 giving the right country.

This is against 80 per cent of those 60 and older, 77 per cent of those 45 to 59, and 77 per cent of those between 30 and 44.

The men polled were more likely to know the correct answer than the women.
The same poll also showed that only 58 per cent of Americans know that the declaration came in 1776.

Twenty-six per cent were unsure of the date at all and 16 per cent mentioned another date entirely.

Again, younger Americans were the least likely to know the correct answer, according to the Marist poll.

Just 31 per cent of adults younger than 30 said 1776 was the year in which the U.S. broke away from Great Britain.
Those Americans aged 45 to 59 were the age group most likely to have the correct answer.

Obama again assaults the rich to clean up his economic mess in weekly address

Obama is the most ill-equipped man ever to hold the office of the president. He’s plays golf two or three times a week, goes on vacation every 4 minutes (using the biggest corporate jet in the world), but still finds time to bash the rich in a shameless smokescreen to cover up his job killing policies.

Playing the class warfare game is nothing new. It’s what Democrats do because their whole existence depends on taking wealth from the “haves” and redistributing it to the “have-nots”. It’s a losing proposition that fosters more votes from drones than it promotes economic growth.

Just punish the successful and give it to the public sector unions.

President Obama used his weekly address to reiterate his demand for ending tax breaks for "millionaires and billionaires" in any budget deal to raise the nation's debt limit.

"It would be nice if we could keep every tax break, but we can’t afford them," Obama said. "Because if we choose to keep those tax breaks for millionaires and billionaires, or for hedge fund managers and corporate jet owners, or for oil and gas companies pulling in huge profits without our help – then we’ll have to make even deeper cuts somewhere else."

The president said that students, medical researchers and seniors would pay the price if those tax breaks were not taken away.
"That isn’t right, and it isn’t smart," he said. "We’ve got to cut the deficit, but we can do that while making investments in education, research, and technology that actually create jobs."

Obama did try to sound a positive note about the increasingly terse negotiations between Republicans and Democrats to raise the nation's debt ceiling and reduce the defect.

A woman who promised her boyfriend a night of kinky sex has been jailed after handcuffing him to the bed and torturing him for cheating on her.

Sabrina Renne Robinson, from California, poured hot wax over his chest and threatened to 'gut him like a deer' as she sought revenge.

She also smashed him in the face with the butt of a shotgun and repeatedly threatened to kill him.

Police in California said the 33-year-old suspected her boyfriend had been seeing another woman.

She invited her boyfriend to her flat in Fresno, California, and according to police suggested they do 'something kinky'.

The 41-year-old man, who has not been named, stripped naked and allowed himself to be handcuffed to the bed.

But police said when the man was restrained Robinson suddenly turned violent.

Investigators say Robinson burned the man's chest with candle wax, punched his head and body, hit him with the barrel of a shotgun and threatened him with a knife.

While brandishing the knife, Robinson told him 'this is the same type of knife I skin deer with', according to Madera County Sheriff’s Department Eric Stuart.

At least there’s somebody at MSNBC with enough integrity to tell it like it is when we have a president way over his head, unable to talk about his own record since coming to the White House, refusing to accept blame for his own mess, and desperately giving the American people false choices between choosing kids and corporate jets.

That was a shameful, disgusting, and unbecoming of a president performance by Obama yesterday and Halperin nailed him on it.

So now the drones at MSNBC are scrambling to right the ship and put it back on a brown-nosing path.

Public sector employees at NY/NJ agency (Port Authority) paid $30K more than average pay of private sector workers

This is where your tax dollars are going.

The average salary for a worker at New York/New Jersey Port Authority, a bi-state agency that runs both New York city airports, the World Trade Center, the PATH Trains system, and the city’s Hudson River bridge and tunnel crossings, is a whopping $90,000 a year.

That’s a lot more than private sector workers in NYC who take in $60K on average.

Here’s the funny part, a PA spokesman said, “The PA has taken significant steps to control costs.”

It pays to work for the Port Authority -- big time. The average salary at the bistate agency hit $90,000 last year -- more than $30,000 above the average salary for private-sector workers in the city -- according to a new analysis by the conservative think tank the Manhattan Institute.

The study found that average salaries at the PA rose about $1,000 over 2009, even as the agency is preparing to propose hiking bridge and tunnel tolls 25 percent next year, from $8 to $10.

"Is it bloat, or is it grounded in necessity? They need to show me," said City Council Minority Leader James Oddo (R-Staten Island). "If they have a good explanation for it, they better put it out there rather quickly."

According to the analysis, the highest-paid PA worker is executive director Christopher Ward, who earned $304,902. The agency's top attorney, Darrell Buchbinder, was No. 2, with $251,758.

The most eye-popping numbers were put up by PA cops, four of whom made the top 10 thanks to huge overtime pay.

Three police sergeants more than doubled their base salaries because of OT. And one of them, Sgt. Edwin Rivera -- No. 8 overall -- pulled down $132,286 on top of his base salary of $103,964 to make him the PA's OT champ for 2010.

Rivera declined to comment.

In a statement, the PA said it "has taken significant steps to control costs . . . the agency is now at its lowest staffing levels in 40 years and will continue its commitment to cutting costs."

The agency has a workforce of about 7,000 -- including a 1,500-member police department -- and operates the region's airports and seaports, the World Trade Center, the PATH train system, and the city's Hudson River bridge and tunnel crossings.

By comparison, the Empire Center said the average employee salary at the MTA in 2009 was dramatically lower, at $69,000.

"We think it's incredibly important that financial data, like the Port Authority's payroll, is available for analysis," the Empire Center said in a statement.

"It helps to paint the whole picture of where our tax dollars go and provides a canvas for taxpayers to make an informed decision about how they think their government is performing

A prominent NAACP leader is sending her child to a posh New England boarding school at the same time the civil-rights group is suing to block low-income parents from educating their kids in charter schools, The Post has learned.

Karen Boykin-Towns, who heads the group's Brooklyn branch and serves on its national board, enrolls her daughter, Jasmine, at the bucolic, 80-acre Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, which charges up to $45,000 in annual tuition.

Her husband is Darryl Towns, the state housing commissioner and former Brooklyn state assemblyman who voted to increase the cap on charter schools last year.


Her father-in-law is veteran Brooklyn Congressman Ed Towns.

"We know you are selective about your future . . . We're equally selective at Brewster. We want only the very best students," the school says in its brochure.

Students there study with Apple laptops and play Frisbee on the shoreline of majestic Lake Winnipesaukee, which abuts the campus.

It was less of a parade and more of a carnival as gay pride mania took over New York today.

Around 500,000 people rejoiced today at one of the world's oldest and largest gay pride parades two days after a new law gave homosexual couples the same marital rights as everyone else.

Cheering supporters greeted Governor Andrew Cuomo as he led off the parade after signing the historic bill that made New York the sixth state to extend full marriage rights to gay couples.

We've been waiting to get married in Central Park for years, and now we got here just in time for history to be made,’ said Bryce Croft of Kettering, Ohio, at the parade with partner, Stephanie Croft.

The two women are not yet legally married although they share the same name, and they want to move to New York and get married. Stephanie Croft said they ‘cried’ when they heard the news.
