Be a Gentleman Please

From the movie of Quantum of Solace - the next James Bond movie

What are exactly the criteria to be a gentleman? This question starts to linger in and out my ears passing through my half-function brain all otherwise hot day long (there was a problem with my electricity earlier this day). This complicated story starts when one of my cyber space friends asked for my phone number. Let me bold that sentence; she asked for my phone number. I kindly said that it would be better if she could gives her number first as I do not want my number to be open for the whole world viewing. Her comment’s box is automatically approved while comments in my page need to have my approval first. But she refused and uttered the most cliché excuses in the world, “you should give yours first if you are a gentleman”.

Before I continue further, I honestly admit that my reaction after that was not to be proud off. Nevertheless, the lack of sleep and a very hot day already fueled up my sarcastic level with every sweat that I dropped. I replied her back by saying and I quoted:

Alahai.. ( Malaysian’s commonly use word which equivalent to ‘whatever’ but in a pity tone) Are you judging how 'gentleman' someone is by providing his phone number for viewing in the open internet and full of pervert from all over cyber world? Well, if that what it takes to be a 'gentleman', this is my phone number.. +6017+++++++

Well, please tell me whether I am overreacted or not. What are exactly the criteria to be a gentleman? When do we could imply the gentleman word in our daily sentences? Other than this one, the only common usage of it is when you are queuing for something, such as paying for bills, foods or while trying to do something that requires no harm and hardness. In my opinion, this is just a bullshit a way for women to discriminate male being (other than this way, they also done this). They want to make you believe that there is a standard opposed by them to level up your manliness (while they laughing their way to the queue in front off you.

Thus, for male inherited traits like myself, please beware of those XX chromosomes. They are just trying to blind you. Defend your species before they continue to extinct from this world. And for those women out there, please please please do let me know what the criteria to be a gentleman are. It is just unfair to compare a normal man with some movies heroes. They are just acting, in case you are naïve.

And for me, I just blew away my chance with this girl. What a day...

*UPDATED!*
And guest what? She message me back! but, the first thing she asked was, COULD YOU BORROW ME SOME MONEY?? Unfortunately for her (and good for me), I was already on bus, on the way back to my college. hurm.. what's up with that??

Hot News This Week #4

>> HOT NEWS THIS WEEK: Is World Getting Crazier?

Seriously, who would say something like that? Except for wars, poverty, food crisis, oil price skyrocketing, market slumming, environmental disasters and the surge of sex related crimes, the world is fine. We (at least the readers of my blog) are still alive and kicking frantically clicking through the webs. Nevertheless, we should stop for a while and reflects our world conditions. No, I am not talking about nature and how to save them again, not yet.

News 1: A Racist Grandmother

A grandmother, who has a daughter and three grandchildren, was woken three times by a group of drunken and noisy students, who were shouting drunkenly and kicking bins. The former policewoman got dressed, went outside and shouted at them:

"Why can't you go back to where you come from and make some noise there? I bet your families and neighbors wouldn't put up with it. You don't care about us and do just as you like. What gives you the right to frighten my elderly neighbors, cause damage and keep us awake at night?"

And 4 months later, she was charged for using racially aggravated threatening words. It turned out that two Asians in the group had complained to the police. In her defend:

"The last thing I am is a racist. I have a totally inclusive attitude to different races and cultures - I don't care if you are black, white, green or a Martian. Their color had nothing to do with it - it was their behavior."
Well, I am an Asian too. But I don't think what she did is racist. The 51 years-old just trying to get some sleep for God sake. This incident only shows that authorities today are willing to charged without using any common sense. Not that I agree that racism should left unpunished, we just need to consider the facts and situations before any further harm was done. Racism should be handled delicately as it is a very sensitive issue (Malaysian government, please take note).

News 2: First Man In World to Give Birth Shows His Child

"Thomas Beatie says he is just like any other normal father. But he is about as far as you could be from typical. He claims to have given birth to the child. Although born a woman, Beatie had his breasts removed and lives outwardly as a man after changing his gender to male. The 34-year-old says he retained his female sex organs because he intended to have children one day." - Daily Mail

Okay, the truth is he is still she as she still has female sex organs, but to make my writing easier, I will refer to the individual as he. I already read months ago about this news. Although he has not given birth then. The buzz of 'the miracle' never got to me because he was not born as a male, just change his gender later. Nevertheless, after I saw the pictures of his innocent daughter, my heart touched. I really hope that her parent will deliver to their daughter the news that the person who actually given her birth was her father instead of her mother.

This is not a really great news to debate with, and I do not specified my view of this matter. I just want to know what do you think about it.

New 3: What is in a name?

There are many weird names in this planet. Just check the celebrities children names. It ranges from the Moon and to the Inspector Gadget. I once wrote a post about name and pronunciation complaining about how my name is hard to pronounce. But, I will be much pleased with my name (and I am pretty sure everyone else will pleased with their name too) compared to this 9 years-old who name is Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii - for real.

That's the unfortunate appellation a girl was given by her parents - but now a New Zealand judge has ordered she should become a ward of court until she can choose a name she really likes. She is at the center of a custody battle. A family court judge cited a list of unfortunate names that he said were embarrassing or made children seem foolish among their peers.

Some names, including Fish and Chips (twins), Yeah Detroit, Stallion, Twisty Poi, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit, were blocked by registration officials, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter, Midnight Chardonnay, Benson and Hedges (twins) 'and tragically, Violence,' the judge said.

And now, who said the world is getting crazier? I am sure the insanity of this world is not comparable from other planets in this galaxy. Just hope that the last shows of insanity before the world end is Paris Hilton will be married and settle down with her four kids. We all deserve that kind of insanity.

Boys Are Stupid

What is gender discrimination? Wikipedia defined it as a discrimination a person or group on the basis of their sex or gender. When we talk about discrimination, we could not help but to arrive with another word, sexism. So, what is sexism? Sexism is commonly considered to be discrimination and/or hatred towards people based on their sex rather than individual merits, but can also refer to any and all systemic differentiation based on the sex of the individuals.
Unfortunately, we are usually being fed by only certain gender discrimination, which is female gender. We sometimes forget that there could also be other sexes (male and the intersexed people who are born with a mixture of male and female characteristics) that being discriminated. I could search and list out many movies, highly publicized court cases, articles and case studies. I am not an opposer of female, but I think we should also look into other gender discrimination.

I tried to find cases of male discrimination in internet, but only came by two (!) of them. Compared to hundreds of female discrimination. This may be an indication that female was marginally discriminated, but it also could be that male discriminations are less exposed. Well, of course this is because not many people wanted to watch men bodybuilders competition compared to Donald Trump and his syndication of Miss Universe.

One of the cases is about a male nurse, that was sacked after overstaying his medical leave - he stated that he was discriminated. But the case was dismissed. The other one is about Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them! T-shirt production that was later removed from market. The slogan was printed next to a cartoon image of a boy running away from 5 stones flying in his direction.

People magazine even ran a story on the T-shirt with a quote from a 10 year old girl saying, "I want to make boys feel bad because it's fun." Glenn Sacks, the designer of the shirt said that it was because of boys are now seriously left behind against girls at all level in school. By high school the typical boy is a year and a half behind typical girl in reading and writing. Girls get better grades than boys and boys are more likely to drop out of school or to be disciplined, held back or expelled compared by girls.

Boys are four times as likely to receive a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as girls and the vast majority of learning disabled students are boys. Boys are less likely to graduate high school, go to college, or graduate college than girls. Shock isn't it to read about it, even though we all realized that the situation does exist. Some said that feminists are the one who try to keep the matter under the carpet.
According to Diane Ravitch, author and former US Department of Education official, "The American Association of University Women's 1992 report "How Schools Shortchange Girls" (a report of a "girl crisis" that was widely publicized) was completely wrong. What was so bizarre is that it came out right at the time that girls had just overtaken boys in almost every area.. it was like calling a wedding, a funeral.. There were all these special programs put in place for girls, and no one paid any attention to boys."
I am sure that we all have the same problem worldwide, but some of the countries are still busy trying to change the impression of woman to highlight the boys discrimination. Nevertheless, I do hope we are aware of this situation and consider it as a problem. How you think about a problem is more important than the problem itself, so always think positively about it like these:

1. Stop sending your boys to school
Your son will has less homework, less detention and will not complaining about the how he has to be around girls (as girls are usually more in his class). You could always home school him or if you're rich enough, you could hire a home tutor for him. The worst he can be is to become a geek/nerd or a psycho killer.

2. Men could find more excuses to stay at home rather than work
Who are we to resist of staying home all the time? Not like we need to take care of our children - they invented maid/babysitter for that already. Plus, it isn't a new trend for those modern countries

3. You could design a T-shirt saying "Girls are Cleverer" or "Boys are stupid, we throw rocks at them, and they never know!"
Which would probably become more hit than a bag printed with "I am not a plastic bag". An answer that was arose from not a question statement. Yeah, we know they are not a plastic bag, should we necessarily printed it out loud?

My wonderful design, call me to order

With boys future are becoming less certain, more and more boys spending time in juvenile school and jail, the myth of the "fragile girl" has received more of the lion's share of attention by the society. When boys are discussed at all, it's about how aggressiveness, competitiveness and usually out of normal thinking (about almost everything) should be checked and channeled in constructive ways. Rather than, modifying their antisocial behavior and making them more like girls.

In the end, I am not saying that female should continue to be discriminated (which they were and that is a fact), but we should all seek a gender equality rather than blaming each other for what we have been. A boy will be a man, and a girl will be a woman. Only time could tell whether we will ever achieved this gender equality.
