Victor, 2010, gelatin silver print, 12 x 18 inches, edition of three, from Team's website.

Thursday night from 6-8 @ TEAM, Ryan McGinley's 3rd solo show at the gallery. Be there for the best artist of our generation's latest offering and for the breathtakingly gorgeous hipsters that are sure to line the sidewalk.

picked you right out of a line-up

JULIAN IS ALIVE!!
Apparently he's a partner of a new restaurant in LA called Shin. (http://shinbbq.com)
Thecobrasnake was on hand to shoot some photos, and the above piece of gold captured Mr. JC.
Good to see he's out and about, representing his beloved JETS.

In gallery news, we have an opening tonight. The painter's name is Jason Karolak, and you can preview the show on our site. I think Jason has talent, and his work strikes a different chord in the current scene, one that varies from the trendy, junk-infused, installation-heavy pattern we've been seeing for a while. This stuff is good old-fashioned abstract painting, and it feels like a breath of fresh air. Come check it out!

speak to me in a language i can hear

Congrats to Fed for today's match, a 5-setter, which he seemed to really enjoy. I love it when he screams on the court. So rare. HERE WE GO TO THE FINALS, BABY! It's Suisse time. Go to USOPEN.ORG for all the updates you need.

Today we installed the next show at my gallery. Kevin Cooley has put together a really beautiful show of video and photography. Opens on Thursday from 6-8. Hope to see you there with a warm Heineken in hand! (Sorry, ice melts people, so if you want it cold, stop being a lazy hipster and get there early.) Check it out! http://www.kevincooleyphotography.com/

HMM in culture news, I just inhaled Dear Diary by Lesley Arfin. SO typical, I know. How many Go Ask Alices can I read in one life? But in my defense I had no idea this was a descent-into-drugs narrative. I thought it was merely a coming-of-age (ooooooh my favorites!) tale. But either way... I read it really fast and thought about it a lot. I think I liked it.

A word on Gossip Girl: welcome back, Chuck, you "motherchucker Bass-tard." Your wardrobe planners hit it out of the PARK and I'm promoting you to #1. Adios, boring Dan.

Also if you want to die happy, go read supmag.com and especially die a death of love and laughter for The Virgins interview... then come back to life and hyperventilate over the Jarmans because Ross is super cutie, Gary's enough to shoot you dead with his killer eyes, and Ryan is Ryan is Ryan, gotta love those British teeth!

incentive, wanna know you're dtf

Yesterday New York answered. I've been dying to just see a Stroke in a non-Wiz Kid organized event (in real life, if you will) and it happened on a glorious yesterday afternoon. Nikolai on 14th and 5th. Sweet life.
After that walk-by, Rebecca and I went to see Bottleshock, which alternated between funny and not funny. Some parts bored me, others were riotous, including Bill Pullman opening a bottle of his own Chardonnay with a samurai sword. The best line of the movie came from a bit part old lady: "My grand-daddy sold hooch during prohibition."
The other night, John invited Scott and I to an art opening at Craft. The artist works there, and she had her paintings hanging in a room adjacent to the main dining area @ the Union Square location. I think it's really cool that they support her like that, so she's able to make a living and participate with her more artistic side at her job.

see those guys, i guess they're quite clever

Today after work Rebecca and I went to see two shows. One at Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts, which is the annual Alfred BFA show that she does. I liked Nolan Grunwald's collages the best.

Then we ventured up to the 8th floor to Greene Naftali to see half of Painting Now and Forever Part II. (The other half is at Matthew Marks.) It's an important show that interested people should see. Too bad 10 years ago I missed Part I, but I was pretty busy that summer going to the Lititz Springs Pool with Fats and following my favorite skateboarders around town.

Anyway, for me the most interesting painting was done by Cosima von Bonin, and not only because it's called Straight, No Chaser, but because "painting" with textiles has been getting a lot of attention lately, from Paul Lee's small towels to Gedi Sibony's minimalist cut rugs. von Bonin goes for a more colorful, craftier feel on a very large scale. Go to the show, or you can view it here: http://www.greenenaftaligallery.com
P.S. If you go to Greene Naftali, you may as well stop by Massimo Audiello on the 5th Floor... if you bring me an iced coffee, that's bonus points.

In news of modern tragedies, last night I found out from brooklynvegan.com that none other than PAUL RUDD (of "My cock's jammin'" fame) introduced the first summer movie at McCarren Park Pool. So that was a huge loss. Next week: VIRGIN SUICIDES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Event of the summer, I swear.

The gigantosaur news of the day is that Converse FINALLY released the music video for "My Drive Thru," which Jujubeans cowrote and performed with Pharrel and Santogold. You can view it here (at the best Strokes livejournal): http://community.livejournal.com/oh_someday

Don't get me wrong, I am THRILLED to see he's alive and kickin it, but I guess this leaves me hanging a little bit. I want dirty rock and roll, not a 1/2 animated 3 min. jingle. Feelings are mixed on this one....................................... but god, it's fabulous to see your face again, lover.

Okay time to go to Crooklyn to see Dan's new-ish place...

shhhhhhhhhhhhhh John, I'm actually scoping out locations for BROWNSTONERS.
