see those guys, i guess they're quite clever

Today after work Rebecca and I went to see two shows. One at Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts, which is the annual Alfred BFA show that she does. I liked Nolan Grunwald's collages the best.

Then we ventured up to the 8th floor to Greene Naftali to see half of Painting Now and Forever Part II. (The other half is at Matthew Marks.) It's an important show that interested people should see. Too bad 10 years ago I missed Part I, but I was pretty busy that summer going to the Lititz Springs Pool with Fats and following my favorite skateboarders around town.

Anyway, for me the most interesting painting was done by Cosima von Bonin, and not only because it's called Straight, No Chaser, but because "painting" with textiles has been getting a lot of attention lately, from Paul Lee's small towels to Gedi Sibony's minimalist cut rugs. von Bonin goes for a more colorful, craftier feel on a very large scale. Go to the show, or you can view it here: http://www.greenenaftaligallery.com
P.S. If you go to Greene Naftali, you may as well stop by Massimo Audiello on the 5th Floor... if you bring me an iced coffee, that's bonus points.

In news of modern tragedies, last night I found out from brooklynvegan.com that none other than PAUL RUDD (of "My cock's jammin'" fame) introduced the first summer movie at McCarren Park Pool. So that was a huge loss. Next week: VIRGIN SUICIDES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Event of the summer, I swear.

The gigantosaur news of the day is that Converse FINALLY released the music video for "My Drive Thru," which Jujubeans cowrote and performed with Pharrel and Santogold. You can view it here (at the best Strokes livejournal): http://community.livejournal.com/oh_someday

Don't get me wrong, I am THRILLED to see he's alive and kickin it, but I guess this leaves me hanging a little bit. I want dirty rock and roll, not a 1/2 animated 3 min. jingle. Feelings are mixed on this one....................................... but god, it's fabulous to see your face again, lover.

Okay time to go to Crooklyn to see Dan's new-ish place...

shhhhhhhhhhhhhh John, I'm actually scoping out locations for BROWNSTONERS.
