Rebecca Black – The Living Proof That You can be Famous Without Any Talent

Rebecca Black Friday

There was a point of time when parents reminded their children before they went to sleep that without hard work, your talent will goes to the drain. The time has ended. We are living in the cultural moment when every possible thing can shoot you up to the highest ladder of popularity contest, even for the wrong reason. Take Chipmunk music for example, I for once never thought it will become that successful, maybe I am a conservative person and making fun of people voice is more than an act of distasteful towards other human being, but the Chipmunk and all his kind catapult to the fame within years of their existence.

Then, come Rebecca Black and her Friday song. At the peak moment when people are expressing their grief, concern and prayers to the devastating double major disaster in Japan (8.9 earthquakes and tsunami that followed) the social networking world was injected by a humor by the recording company called Ark Music Factory. They are basically making their business based on the foundation that every teenage dream is to become a pop or rock stars.

Rebecca Black Friday

“sounds like stuff in those movies when the world ends and it shows all the destruction...” - soccerviking1012 on YouTube

These privileged young girls will record a song, written by professional musicians, auto-tuning their voice (so that it wasn’t overly embarrassing) and then have a professional grade music video for them. The end result will be fed to the public through YouTube. Rebecca Black’s video has been gaining millions of views (last count it was more than 7 millions) and even attracted the attention of the mighty CNN.

“BREAKING NEWS from Rebecca Black: Tomorrow is Saturday and Sunday comes afterwards.” – Jesus_M_Christ on Twitter

The lyric was pretty simple and made up from the repetition of the word “Friday” (47 times), “yeah” (23 times), “fun” (20 times) and “partyin’” (17 times). Oh and she’s counting the days and apparently can’t decide whether to seat in the front or back seat. The perfect mixture of brainless lyric and the fact that she can’t sing are the reason of her success. The “Friday Friday” and “Rebecca Black” has been trending on Twitter from Monday. The impact of her song is that big; even it is Monday, Friday is trending.

“That little label needs to make her a full album, one song for each day of the week.” – Pop Justice

Here are the extracted some of what we will call one day as a lyrical genius:

7am, waking up in the morning
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs
Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal
Seein’ everything, the time is goin’
Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushin’
Gotta get down to the bus stop
Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends (My friends)

Kickin’ in the front seat
Sittin’ in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?

It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday

Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday
Today i-is Friday, Friday (Partyin’)
We-we-we so excited
We so excited
We gonna have a ball today

Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after...wards
I don’t want this weekend to end

Rebecca Black Friday

Just like any greatest songs ever produced, there are growing trend of making a parody/remix of this song. Don't forget to view these better versions of Rebecca Black's Friday:

1. Rebecca Black - Friday (Groundhog Day Remix)
2. Rebecca Black - Friday (CHIPMUNK VERSION)
3. FRIDAY - Rebecca Black - Cover by Alex Carpenter
4. Rebecca Black - Friday (Rock Version)

At the end of the day, we can’t help but to savor the moment where the entertainment industry is stop talking about Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber and let the Rebecca Black bath in her search of glory. Rebecca Black phenomenon only cemented my theory that the world can also rejoice not only when there is a disaster, but when there is a small, nonsense thing that we all are feel closer to. We hate it, we love it, we just can’t stop talking about it. Long live Rebecca Black, I can't wait for my Friday.

Run Baby Run!

This week, I gonna do my Music Monday quite differently. I posted one of many tags (sorry guys, I will try to get another few done soon *crossing fingers*) that related to this week choice of Music Monday. Intrigued? More after the jump!

P/S: This is gonna be another long post. Get yourself a cup of coffee, enjoy and relax :)

A little bit about this tag:

Rules:

1. Put your iTunes/Napster/Zune Player/WinAmp/etc on shuffle.

2. For each question, press the next button to get your answer.

3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS! NO SKIPPING!!!!

4. Tag 10 or more friends who might enjoy doing this as well as the person you got it from.

I am not tagging anybody, but since I found this tag is very amusing, I advise you guys to give it a try. If you think it is fun, please join this tag. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

Music Monday #5 >> Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

Led Zeppelin, Stairway to Heaven, Metal, Rock, Band, Music, Music Monday, Greatest Hits
Led Zeppelin | Source

There is a controversy about this song, we all love controversy don’t we? My previous song, Imagine by John Lennon also has a little controversy along with it. This is the Stairway to Heaven’s controversy:

This is rumored to contain backward satanic messages, as if Led Zeppelin sold their souls to the devil in exchange for "Stairway To Heaven." Supporting this theory is the fact that Jimmy Page bought Aleister Crowley's house in Scotland, which had become a well known Satanic church and was known as "The Toolhouse." In his books, Crowley advocated that his followers learn to read and speak backwards. - source

I am not sure where could I find a tape recorder (or whatever they used back then to play a song backwards), so all I can say is that if the song is play backward, perhaps it would sound something like this: going down the stairway of heaven (to the hell). Heck, maybe it was then they got the idea to make this controversy. I wish I was born in 1971! I would love to be the one who start off the controversy!

Click play to hear it:

Just read between the line of its lyric, then add the music as a background and you will know instantly why it's one of the greatest songs ever made.

There’s a lady who’s sure
All that glitters is gold
And she’s buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she’s buying a stairway to heaven.

There’s a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook
There’s a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.

There’s a feeling I get
When I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who standing looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.

And it’s whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.

If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow
Don’t be alarmed now,
It’s just a spring clean for the may queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
There’s still time to change the road you’re on.
And it makes me wonder.

Your head is humming and it wont go
In case you don’t know,
The pipers calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow,
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How evrything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.

And she’s buying a stairway to heaven.

The song is about a woman who accumulates money, but finds out the hard way her life had no meaning and will not get her into heaven.

This is the first time I did not put any video along with my Music Monday. I just thought there is no video is good enough to describe the beauty of the song, but if you still want to watch the video, do visit HERE. Let the music player fully loaded and then just sit, sip some coffee and enjoy. Listen to the wonderful guitar sound and the lyric. If you couldn’t hear the music, try adjusting your computer volume and if it is still not working, just follow the link given above to watch the music video.

In the world where money is the dictator, it will serves a good reminder for what we had become.

John Lennon - Imagine

Music Monday #1 >> John Lennon - Imagine

Even though I haven't been born when the song was released in 1971, I did listen to it years after that - thanks to my father love of music. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine voted “Imagine” the third greatest song of all time.
“In many countries around the world – my wife and I have visited about 125 countries – you hear John Lennon’s song ‘Imagine’ used almost equally with national anthems.” – Jimmy Carter, former U.S. president
Of course this song stirred some controversy itself. Just see the second verse, “nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too”. For someone who has a religion and belief to hold with, the words may sound offensive. Islam, Christian, Buddhism, Hindu and all other religion are relatively against any form of violence. It just that people who are using religion as an excuse to start killing each other. The world is indeed bleeding badly.

Click below to hear the song:

Or see the video:

John Lennon - Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
