In case you haven't read about it, there were rumors circulating the internet saying that Avril Lavigne's The Best Damn Tour in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has been canceled. Then today, Malaysian government officially said that the concert will goes on as planned if only they have a valid permit for doing that. The same excuse was being used to Inul Darasita’s (a dangdut’s superstar) supposed to be concerts. Both her concerts were canceled in a short notice. And of course, she cried and fainted when she heard the news. I am sure she would not come to Malaysia for quite sometimes after this. Oh, there is also lots of fuzz when Beyonce changed her tour from Malaysia to Indonesia while Christina Aguilera skipped Malaysia on her Asia tour schedule. Gwen Stefani has to ‘tune’ down her clothes and the Malaysian organizer was fined RM10, 000 (USD2, 857) after the U.S. girl group was accused of flouting decency regulations.
After reading comments circulating in the websites from whether foreigners who never even come to Malaysia and from those who said they are from Malaysia, I feel quite ashamed and embarrassed. For what reason was other people have the right to blame other country for practicing and preserving their culture? Oh hell, who am I bluffing? Before I continue my rambling further, let me point out several factors for you to decide whether or not the government should cancel Avril Lavigne’s concert:
Why Malaysia Government SHOULD CANCEL Avril Lavigne's Concert:
1. It is morally incorrect to invite Avril Lavigne and her immoral behaviors who one said may or may not include ‘jumping, shouting, hugging and kissing on stage’ – which was ‘refrain’ illegal in Malaysia. Malaysia also requires all the performers to wear clothes without obscene or drug-related images and to be covered from the chest to the knees.
2. Malaysia's Independent day is coming up on 31st August. It seems improper that close with the day our nation celebrates its 51st independent day, we celebrate it with a concert from foreigner artist!
3. For God sake, who watch Avril Lavigne anymore? If Perez Hilton spoke the truth, Lavigne’s concerts and album did not sell well in US. Nevertheless, Lavigne told MTV News on Thursday that she plans to put on a good performance for her Malaysian fans. "I've already sold 10,000 tickets there, so I will be going to put on a concert for the fans," Lavigne said in the interview, posted at mtv.com.
Why Malaysia Government SHOULD NOT CANCEL Avril Lavigne’s Concert:
1. We need this kind of tourist attraction. People are willing to spend times and money for their favorite artists. If this problems continue, I am sure other international artists will skip our country on their Asian tour
2. There are lots of other sources that will affect youngster’s moral values. For example, internet and those entertainment channels. Well, like ASTRO (the only Satellite TV provider in Malaysia) motto, “The best seat is in your house”. We should all enjoy and relaxing while watching all the half naked ladies in those video clips
3. Malaysia government should draw a clearer guideline for the performers to follow. For example, in Kelatan (one of the highly practiced Islamic values state ruled by the state government), they required the female performers to dress appropriately; wear a scarf or tudung. They also separated female and male audiences from mixing together. Not that I agree with their regulations, but I am not opposing either
The point is, we should have clear guidelines so that the performers will know what should be followed and what should not. If they do not prefer to abide it, they could just skip the country or state. There is less embarrassed rather than last minutes cancellation that surely will waste someone time and money. So, what do you think? Do you want to watch Avril Lavigne? Should her concert goes as planned? Do you feel pity with her? Well, I am pretty sure I am not having any sympathy to offer her. For one, she super duper rich, and I am not. Sigh. Oh, and I am not going to her concert either!
