imagine all the people
i don't usually blog about personal stuff, but sometimes i feel like i absolutely have to... and anyway, this isn't really personal. it's public."i have a dream"... mlk jr. made this phrase famous in the 60's. and being that the 60's and non-violent protest are close to my heart, i am using "i have a dream" today.MOST IMPORTANT: i have a dream that women will be in control of their bodies no matter what. a woman is a person. a living, breathing person, who has the right to terminate any pregnancy for any reason. it is no one else's business, especially not male politicians (or uppity backwards-thinking alaskan bitches) in the government. abortion obvs isn't the most amazing thing to experience in life and most people don't want to ever have to, but would you rather have bloody coat hangers lining the streets? have you ever read the cider house rules?i have a dream that gay people (stress the word people) will be able to live fear-free lives without judgment and will be able to marry anybody they choose. the very idea of marriage is now exclusive and tainted by the fact that conservative assholes cling to the concept with such religious and perverted fervor that they can't imagine anyone different (and therefore immoral) from them could take part it in. selfishly, i hope that someday i can get married and not feel that by doing so is a slap in the face of a major part of the population.i have a dream that sex of all kinds (excluding pedophila, obvs) will just stay the fuck separated from government because the two have nothing to do with each other. (sidenote, who impeaches a president for adultery? probably no one who hasn't f-ed someone out of marriage themselves. hello, congress.)i have a dream that justices will be appointed who will uphold PEOPLE under the constitution. they will not seek public service so they can make women 2nd rate citizens. they will not seek public service so they can make gay people feel like aliens. they will uphold the law and not the "religious" rhetoric of ignorance.i have a dream that religious freedom means religious freedom. in high school, my homeroom teacher wouldn't give an openly atheist kid candy at christmas time. FUCKED UP. religion is private, and shouldn't be used as a platform of any kind, including during the 2008 presidential election.i have a lot of other dreams, but those seem to be the most important right now. i urge all of you to vote for barack obama and get the old crusty republican men out of office immediately. it's time this country changed for the better. rfk is probably dying a 2nd death in his grave. he was thisclose to achieving the 68 democratic nomination, and thereby would have made this country and the world a better place.in the very least, please make sure you are reading veritable information. do not get your info from sensationalist, inaccurate mass emails. this goes for either side. stick to the new york times. they are unbiased and have a great issues checklist for the candidates and their running mates. they also have links to accurate polls, etc.idealism is not evil. VOTE FOR CHANGE.p.s. my brother is amazing
